Was watching a video on YouTube, screen went black. Can not get to main menu or even turn off. What to do?

A few ideas:
Is the battery flat?
If you hold the power button in for 20 secs does that work?
Can you take the battery out (not all are removable)
If you post again stating exactly what device/phone/tablet and its make and model, you have, we may be able to give some more suggestions.
