I was hoping for folder/subfolder style navigation... instead, it's just a mess of subfolders with no hierarchy or structure at all.

I don't think you can have subfolders in the gallery. I may be wrong.

Correct, AFAIK you need a third-party gallery app for viewing things in a nested arrangement.

Hope is a wonderful thing ... but which page in the manual explains how to create subfolders for your photos?
