Help Blinking Target Notification?

I turned on my Galaxy Player yesterday morning and discovered a circular thing on my notification bar that looks like a target with the middle continuously blinking. Its been up there all day long and is still blinking as I type this message. I was wondering if anybody else who has this player has ever seen anything like this and if so, whether it may be a potential problem or not.

I agree. If it is blinking, then you are probably inside and unable to get a lock. Turn it off to save power if you are not using an app that needs it.

It appears that the icon does match the GPS icon, now that I look at it. However, I just checked my settings and my GPS ISN'T turned on. I even tried turning it on and turning it back off, but the icon is still up there blinking.

Not only that, but I turned on airplane mode to disable all wireless connections, but the icon was still blinking anyway.

Now I've got that darn blinking gps indicator! And my GPS is off! And I don't have anything running that wants GPS either.

It happened to me again a few days ago while I was at a Starbucks using their wifi (at&t wifi). I can't remember for sure, but I think the first time it happened might have also been at Starbucks. Not sure if that has anything to do with it. It hasn't happened at any other time that I can think of during normal daily use.

Mine starting blinking 2 days ago. Turning off and then back on removed icon. Happened again but turn off/on did not work again. I wonder if there is an app trying to get a location.

Ol' blinky is back. Rebooting fixes it. I'm going to have to pay attention and see if there's something I activate that triggers it.

Mine started doing that today. Rebooting fixed it, but in 4 hours it drained almost all the battery. Gps was not on and turning it on and off does not fix it. Anybody figure out what it is yet?

Try turning off the locator in Google maps... if you have turned on the personal locator... the GPS will try and locate you in the maps app...
Ted

I have not activated GoogleMaps for over a month. Whatever it's set at, that's what it's been all along.
And this darned blinky keeps appearing every few days.
Gotta be some prize for the first one that figures it out.

Go to settings...location and security.... Use wireless networks.
Maybe turning that off stops it. It says that you are giving permision to use gps even if no apps are running.

i have found out what causes that light to stay on and blinking even with gps off and the google location off. it is the google maps app. if you open up that app when it is blinking unwantedly and turn on the gps until it stops blinking and stays solid then turn off the gps the blinking tarket notification goes away.

You are correct, brosko. Opening Maps, enabling GPS, then tuning off GPS worked for me. simply trying to enable then disable GPS alone didn't work. We'll see if it lasts. This may reoccur when updating Google Maps. I'll keep better tabs this time.

No, I think it's an app that's trying to get a GPS fix. Google Maps, and other similar apps, use the GPS functions, but they don't get updates through it...except for determining your location as you travel.

I have been getting ads in my notification area kinda sucks but cant determine what app I installed to get the spam
Try Air Push Detector or Addons Detector free in the market. They should let you know what apps are doing that. The only way to get rid of them is to uninstall the app.

Having trouble with flickering GPS sign too, none of the above worked. Tried rebooting, tried disabling apps, tried running Maps and letting it locate me (which failed btw, it cant seem to access GPS while what ever else is using it), tried restarting phone, tried turning GPS on/off...

Nothing works. Its draining battery real fast too, down to 60% after a few hours of minimal use.

Edit: Oh forgot to mention that Maps can find my location if I enable the wifi option, but then stops working again when I turn it off, and this still doesn't stop the flickering even once its found me.
