Help Block OTA update

Hello folks,

My Galaxy S4 Play edition had to be factory reset. After factory reset, it is bugging me to update to OS 5.1 which I do not want to do because I rooted on 5.0 and would like to keep it as it is (and don't want to lose the root).

I am searching on the web on various boards how to disable that notification. Most of the threads talk similar to the instructions here, http://www.androidayos.com/how-to-block-ota-updates-on-samsung-galaxy-s4/

The problem is I do not see those files under system folder. The screenshots are using a free app Root Explorer https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.root.browserfree The order of the folders may be mixed up, but hope this shows you what I can see.

I tried mounting system folder using ES file Explorer, changed properties of the system folder, but can not see that folder. Can see an option to mount internal Storage and SD card only, no way to 'mount' system.

I also tried the app Disable Services (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cn.wq.disableservice), hoping 'System Update Service' can be found using this app, but couldn't see there as well.
edit: I found 'System Update Service' and it is already unchecked, still I have system update notification. Only option is 'Restart and Install'.

Tried disabling Google Play Services to defer OTA update but didn't work.
I am super frustrated now. Any help is appreciated.

Benefits of a Custom Recovery is for after you root the device you can create a copy of your system and you can restore it when you need it.
I would just go ahead and accept the update and reroot the install TWRP and make a backup.
Disabling auto update in the google play app will only stop apps from updating from the market.

When the notification comes up, just pull down the status bar and long press the notification and uncheck the notification box.

I read somewhere this:
You can stop the notifications by long pressing on message.
Now Force Stop.
But I don't know if this will work.
Also look in the data/fota folder or the cache/ folder.

That will work for a very short time till something wakes it back up, which could end up being seconds.

We also use to on older versions of android accept the update then pull the battery, But I don't recommend it unless you are willing to go phone shopping afterwards.
Haven't heard from the OP so this thread may be ...........................
