Blood Moon

There will be a total lunar eclipse early AM Friday 3-14-25. A total lunar eclipse is called a blood moon because the moon takes on a rich red color while in the Earth's umbra.

The sorting on that chart is really out-to-lunch.

One would think it would be logically chronological, but...

I'm just hoping it's clear enough to see. We're having intermittent clouds and storms, so I'm hoping to be able to enjoy it. Last night the dog needed to go out about 1 and it was crystal-clear and the moon was near full and quite bright, wish it had been tonight.

I think that was my blunder. I didn't intend to post that it was so hosed up. I edited it to add the link I was quoting and scrubbed off that terrible timeline.

That's a bummer. One of the primary reasons I sold my telescope. Between the boys becoming more important than the cosmos to my teen daughters and cloudy or dirty sky weather, I thought it best to sell it while it had value.
It was so much fun when everything was ideal and telescopes hold their price far better than a boat.
I had clear sky and took a bunch of pictures. Trying to hold the phone steady at 100% zoom didn't work out well. I woke up as the moon was moving out of Earth's shadow so I was a bit tardy. I'll post three pictures. These are unfiltered just cropped and resized for the form. The first pic was without phone zoom. The second pic is quick pic of the moon and the third pic a couple of second exposure capturing the color.

We had total cloud cover Friday night. But I don't think it would have been visible on this side of the planet.

Total cloud cover yesterday and the day before.
I did see duration of sun up yesterday the sky looked like so much deep on fire.
I did not take any photographs since was so busy in the morning..
