Blue Laws

I honestly cannot remember if there was a Sunday law in Ireland when I was growing up, or if pubs closed on Sundays - - but I think they did. Probably a Catholic thing more than a law if so. Wasn't much shopping either.

@dontpanicbobby the above is a priest character in Father Ted, a great surreal comedy series about priests on a remote part of Ireland, made in the UK.

Glad you liked it.
If the Irish could spell Episcopalian we would have converted to that.

I don't know, do you mean a British comedy with a religious woman?

Aw, wait. It's either Keeping Up Appearances with the character Hyacinth Bucket, or The Vicar of Dibley with Dawn French.

A Boston, MA thing...
No pron.
Never worked.
No liqour sales on Sunday.

I can remember going fishing with my dad.
It was something that only happened 2, 3, maybe 4 times.
It was legal to give your children alcohol, and since we were going to be in a boat there was little chance of anyone giving us any gruff about it happening in publlic.

I was old enough to have been pissed off about the legal age requirement change from 18 to 21.

My father and I liked the same beer, Pabst Blue Ribbon, and decided to get a six pack before we left.

Although you could by alcohol on Sunday, there were local and in-store rules what could vary.

Where we were, they made us wait until after 12 in the afternoon, as this was the time that the local churches were done for the day.

I'm not sure porno was banned in colonial days. Some of those engravings Ben Franklin had in Poor Richard's Almanac were quite risque and don't even look at some French and German publications from back in that period if you are at all prudish.
