Blue LED now working in Gingerbread

In case anyone is still looking for a solution for this problem when using GOSMS or Handcent SMS, the following works on my Desire, as per the device specification shown left.

Your device needs to be rooted. As always, you do the following at your own risk. Please read the full post before doing anything and make sure you are comfortable carrying out the instructions.

  1. Download 70ledfix.zip to be found here or search the web for it
  2. Extract the file "70ledfix" from the zip archive and copy it to your SD card.
  3. If you don't have it, download and install ES File Explorer
  4. Open ES File Explorer and ensure "Root Explorer" and "Mount File System" are enabled within "Settings"
  5. Use ES File Explorer to navigate to, and copy/move the file "70ledfix" to the directory /etc/init.d/
  6. Once copied/moved, long tap on the file "70ledfix" to bring up a menu, and scroll to select "Properties"
  7. In the dialogue that shows, permissions need to read "rwx rwx rwx".
  8. If they don't, tap the button "Change" which will bring up a dialogue, and ensure that all boxes are ticked. Tap "OK" when done.
  9. Reboot your device.
  10. Use ES File Explorer to check that permissions for "70ledfix" have been set to "rwx rwx rwx".
  11. You should now find that the LED is usable as selected in your SMS (or other) application.
It appears that with Gingerbread, the permissions on the files that allowed use of the colours of the LED were revoked. The file "70ledfix" is a script which runs on reboot which allows the permissions to be reset to regain this functionality.

The script "70ledfix" contains filepaths to the files that allow control of the LED's. It appears that this filepath can vary depending on the ROM or Android version used. As such you may need to modify the content of "70ledfix" accordingly.

The above has been put together using information given by various posters on "forum.xda-developers.com". Kudos goes to them. ;)
