Yea unfortunately, mine is the same. The actual light is much smaller and not nearly as bright as the S3. You can try using other colors with an app like LightFlow
They do have a free version that you can test with. The paid version just supports more apps and adds a few more features. I use it to flash different colors for different notifications. I find magenta and cyan to be much brighter. It's also great for setting up repeating audio/vibrate alerts for all kinds of notifications.
