Help Blue tint in camera?

Anyone noticed a blue tint when using the camera? I've noticed it on the stock app and also jelly bean camera. It shows up when viewing the picture I've taken too... Here's an example, it's a picture of my siding to show the blue tint..... Obviously my siding is the same color all over so you should be able to see what I'm talking about.

Roll-Tide...you and I seem to be the only ones having this problem. Glad I found your post. At least I know it's not just my phone. The lack of responses to your post makes me wonder if we have defective cameras.

This has been an issue with both ICS & JB. Camera apps haven't helped.

Mine is the same way. I returned my first phone thinking it was a defect but I got the same results with the new phone. I also tried many different camera apps and that didn't solve the problem. I had this issue with ICS and was hoping the jellybean update would correct it, but it didn't. The good part, if you want to call it good, is that it usually only appears in pictures with a solid light colored background, in busy pictures with different colors I never really notice it. I just hope they fix it because it has ruined a few pictures for me.

I fixed mine by returning it. Lol. I liked the phone but between issues with the camera and a few other things I just decided to throw in the towel.

Yup mine is the same way sometimes pink sometimes blue. I downloaded Camera FX to see if it was the software or the hardware and it's definitely the hardware. But I bought it to be a phone that also takes pictures, and if I want to take real pics I'll break out the Nikon.

What were the lighting conditions and camera settings when you took the photo of the siding? If you recreate the shot with your new phone is the color correct?

The lighting conditions were a normal sunny day and I never change any camera settings from stock other than maybe the size of the picture (No one needs a poster size picture taken with a phone, lol)

If I can remember to do so, I will take another picture tomorrow with my current phone (iPhone 5)

Is this happening outdoors in cold weather? Or is it also indoors at room temp? I saw others having issues with the LCD in cold weather.

This is a camera issue. The tinting shows up on pictures even when viewed on a PC.

EDIT: Here's an example from my living room ceiling. Natural light from bright sunny day. The ceiling is white.

My wife's Razr HD has some of the tinting while my Razr Maxx HD doesn't seem to have. I checked to make sure each phone had the same settings. Her flash was causing a lot of her indoor shots to be way overexposed, while my flash didn't go off at all under the same circumstances. I turned her flash off and her pics are much better. Of course, if she takes a photo that needs flash, it will be underexposed. She takes a lot of photos of the grand kids, and is a little frustrated by the phone's camera. She does use a digital point and shoot at times, but doesn't always have it with her while the phone is always close by.

I find this camera to be pretty bad. I have blue tint when flash is on, and overexposure problems too. Natural light and outside daylight photos are ok but camera is too finiky and tempermental. My old bberry took better photos with flash while my rmhd takes better outdoor pics. Overall consitency is poor, and seemed to get worse with the JB update, although I only got to use the camera for a month before the JB came. Don't even get me started on the video camera!!!

So you're getting blue-tinted photos using your Samsung Galaxy S3's?

Flash on or off? Amount of ambient light? What color was the background? White or close to white? Any pattern on the background or solid color?

I ask because I had this happen to me (accidentally) about a week ago and I've not been able to reproduce it. I took the phone out of my pocket, activated the camera and accidentally snapped a picture of a table leg. It has a blue tint to it. I then deliberately snapped another picture of the same table leg and it shows normal coloration. (See pics.) Subsequent attempts to create a blue tinted photo have been unsuccessful.

Not sure, but I think the camera's auto white balance is sometimes tricked with certain ambient lighting conditions and it overcompensates, coloring the photos with a blue tint. Also the background in my photos is a Berber carpet which I'm sure gives the auto-focus fits and starts.

Flash was on. Ambient light was what I would consider on the dim side of normal inside household lighting. Background was a solid white 6-panel door.
I suspect that you are on the right track with your comment on the white balance but it's been a long time since I got that deep into photography.

It seems to always cast blue tint for first five seconds on opening the camera app. So you need to wait a while for it to go away or take second shot for better white balance. And this camera seems to really struggle with white balance, exposure under low lighting. I know photography but it's very hard to get decent clear shots of people in low light indoors.

We can't really deny this camera is subpar, so so, at least with stock camera app. In my Gnex days, I saw ton of complaints on its camera. But most of them were coming from HTC or Samsung, not Moto phones. Gnex camera is not great on low light either, but it's better than RHD at focus and exposure I think. Still Motorola has quite bit of works to do on camera IMO.

Of course, RHD camera does much better on good lighting or outdoors. It's definitely usable as P&S camera with enough lighting. But it's plagued by blue tints and hit/miss inconsistent white balance on less than ideal lighting condition. I think it's the camera software issue that handles light metering, calculates white balance.

I've installed ZoomFX and Camera FV-5 apps and they don't necessarily produce any better photos than the stock camera app, so I don't think it's the software. I haven't played around with them in ALL lighting conditions but under low light and normal conditions they don't trump the normal camera in results. Much more adjustable parameters yes, but difference in photo quality I've found the stock app is actually better.

It might be that one of the aftermarket apps would excel in flourescent lighting conditions because of their ability to tweak white balance.

FWIW, Apple iPhone owners and Galaxy S3 owners also complain about blue tinted photos. And these phones are supposed to have kick@ss cameras.

That doesn't necessarily mean it's not in the software. Things like auto-focus, image stabilization, sharpness are more hardware dependent. But colors, contrast, exposure values are done by digital image processing engine. I guess a lot of that is in the stock ROM, so that's why other camera apps don't make much difference, which means it needs to be addressed in next OS update. I didn't take a lot of pictures back when it's on ICS. But it seems like it made a little better photos than on JB 4.1.1.

One thing I notice is once it's stabilizes, the blue tint goes away. But as long as it is trying to adjust for lighting or focus, there is a blue tint. My observation at least.

Hmmm..interesting, and would explain why my inadvertent picture of the table leg had a blue tint.

I think the sluggishness of the camera to adapt and correct for lighting changes or low light conditions is directly related to whatever it is that makes the phone laggy in all other areas of operation. I have no other reason to say this other than know that higher cpu speed on digital cameras makes for faster/higher quality p&s operation. If the cpu on the phone can't handle normal app traffic and normal phone functions without lagginess, why would I not expect the same from the camera "app". I would even bet that if you could squeeze a faster quad core cpu and another 1G of RAM in the RMHD, the same native camera would be 100% better than what we have now?
