Apps Bluetooth 4.0 device to Bluetooth 3.0 device SPP

Hello everyone. I am trying to create an app for controlling my Bluetooth speaker as the existing app only works on mobile devices that have Bluetooth versions lower than 4.0. The AT commands to the speaker are sent using SPP. My problem is, my mobile device has 4.0 which means it does not have SPP. Is there any work around so that I can send the AT commands using my mobile device to the speaker? Thanks in advance

Are you sure your device doesn't support SPP? Seems like a fairly fundamental feature
