Bluetooth car app

Hi, I'm looking for an app/widget that when pressed will switch on my Bluetooth, but,

I would like it so the Bluetooth switches off again, automatically, when I switch off my Bluetooth receiver that's plugged into my car stereo.

So, is there an app that can do both in one?

No, sadly neither seem to work as I'd like. They disable Bluetooth but don't switch it off totally .

Here's what I do...
* I leave my phone's Bluetooth turned on all the time. (The power drain is completely negligible since Bluetooth goes into a low-power, periodic-sniffing state when not actively communicating. In 24 hours, it's probably the equivalent power drain as leaving your screen on for a few seconds. I doubt you could tell the difference.)
* In the phone's Bluetooth settings, long-press the car stereo name and set its "Connection Access" to "Always Connect".

Then the phone will always connect when it "sees" the car stereo and will disconnect when the car stereo is off.

More recently, I've been using the free Llama app to do more advanced "if-then" things.
* Example 1: If my phone "sees" my car stereo's Bluetooth signal, then I have it maximize the media volume and launch Pandora (or every few months I change it to launch a playlist with my favorite music player; Mixzing).
* Example 2: If my phone is charging and it "sees" my car stereo's Bluetooth signal, then I have it turn up the media volume, turn off the screen timeout, maximize screen brightness, launch Pandora, and launch Waze (navigation).

In both examples, I have Llama turn everything back to normal when the car stereo is no longer "seen".

Llama can do all kinds of other useful things and it uses a negligible amount of power. You can teach it to do stuff at certain locations based its recognition of the available cell towers. That kind of location detection uses virtually no power, as opposed to GPS, which gobbles power. For example you can teach Llama the location of your church, school, and/or movie-theatre, and have Llama turn off the ringer when in those locations, but turn it back up when not in those locations.

Automagic is my "Tasker clone" of choice. You can create a widget that'll enable Bluetooth, and have the disabling of your stereo trigger the Bluetooth to turn off.

There doesn't seem to be a "connection access" option on my Nexus 5.

I'll have a look at Automagic.

Hmmm... that's built into my Android 2.3 OS. I'm surprised that such an option isn't available in newer versions of Android. Perhaps that menu option is in a different place or when you first pair the device perhaps it asks if you want to always connect automatically? If not, it looks like the following app would enable automatic connection.

Razz, it's possible that the feature you have was added on by the manufacturer of your handset (assuming it's not a Nexus) and isn't included by Google in stock Android

Maybe. But I find it hard to believe that reasonably modern versions of Android would force you to manually connect to any paired Bluetooth device. That would be so inconvenient that it's unthinkable. If you do a web search on the topic you'll find that most people's Android phones (many makes, models, and OS versions) connect automatically, though a few people have problems-- especially some Android 4.3 phones. I'm pretty sure that automatic connection functionality is built into Android's Bluetooth stack.

Bluetooth Auto Connect has a disconnect feature to disconnect when inactive for X minutes. I've always had that feature turned off, because as noted, leaving BT on doesn't take a heck of a lot of power.
