Help Bluetooth fail with JVC KD-R816

Recently bought a JVC head-set for the purposes of running bluetooth. My HTC Desire pairs with it ok, then it connects but the connection lasts for about 45 seconds before it disconnects.

I've seen this problem quite a bit around the internets but no-one seems to have come up with a solution (that I can find).

The bluetooth setup works fine with other phones.

Is this a fault with all Desires? My Desire?​

I've subsequently half sorted it out, I can now maintain connection to my stereo but only if I elect not to let the stereo access my Desire's phonebook meaning that I get none of the phonebook features (such as caller ID).

I can tolerate this but would really prefer it if I could use all features.
