Help bluetooth from phone to car?

Okay here is my setup. I have an alpine cda-9833 stereo in my car. I used a kca-121b cable to give my stereo an auxiliary port. So I plugged that in to a mono price Bluetooth receiver powered by USB.
Now I said all this to ask this question. I connect the phone to the Bluetooth device and I can play music or videos over it also my gps navigation will play over the speakers. But when I get a phone call it won't play over the speakers it just come through the phone like normal. Now I have used this same bluetooth before for talking on the phone with my home theater system and it works like it was supposed to. It played the caller over the speakers and you use the phone's microphone to talk back. can anyone please help me figure out why it won't work now?

Occasionally my phone does this also, if u look towards the bottom of the screen while ur on a call, there will be 3-4 red icons and one of them will say headset earpiece, if u touch that u shld get a drop down menu to select the earpiece, speaker, or bluetooth (as long as u r currently connected to bluetooth), if u select bluetooth it shld switch over to it (at least it does for me) hope this helps!

Thanks for answering DJ. I just checked my phone and I don't see that button. Across the bottom I have dial pad, speaker, mute, and add call. That's all I got.

Hmmm, well I was assuming u have a razr running Jelly Bean 4.1.2? Ur profile doesn't state ur phone, version, or carrier!

DJ you are correct. Droid RAZR maxx Verizon wireless. Android 4.1.2.
Ok, well I just checked, and yes that is the options that u get when ur NOT connected to bluetooth at the time ur on a call, if you ARE connected to bluetooth, u shld get the three diff options in the spot where you r seeing the speaker icon! First thing I wld do is check to make sure ur bluetooth icon in ur notification area at top is blue (which means u r connected) and not white!

Well I finally made it to the car to check out what you said. I made sure the Bluetooth was connected. I was playing music and hit the phone. when I hit dial it stopped playing music and went to the phone call but still didn't play over the Bluetooth connection as soon as the call ended the music started playing again.
I looked at the buttons like you said and only thing it shows is speaker. I clicked it it just went to speaker. I pushed it and held it and still nothing. I don't know why I dont have those buttons.

Did u look at ur top notifications to see if the bluetooth icon was blue or white?

Maybe try a factory data reset then, that seems to fix alot of bugs! I did one rite after the update to JB, and seems to be all running n working gd for me!

How do you do that DJ? And will that erase all my apps and pics and stuff?
Settings/privacy/factory data reset. It does erase all of ur games and contacts, but as long as u have ur phone set to backup with Google gmail, as soon as u log back into ur gmail, contacts sync rite back, then when u go to play store and select my apps, just redownload all the apps u had be4(u do loose any game data, but that's just the price that gta pay when doing this) and it's not supposed to delete any of ur pix, vids, music off ur Sd card, but I always just remove the card before doing a reset just to be sure!

DJ thanks for your help. I found a cheap old Bluetooth headset charged it and connected it to my phone. I made a phone call and I finally saw the button you were talking about. it had all three selections on it. went back to the car and tried it again there and same result as before will not work with phone. so I'm assuming its something the phone is seeing with that device. Not as a headset I guess. so I guess I'll just hook up the audio jack to the phone for calls I don't talk on the phone much anyway so. That ks again.

No problem, glad I cld be of some assistance to you! Maybe there is some kind of setting in your car bluetooth device that needs to be changed? Since I don't know that device it's hard to say, but at least you know now that it's not your phones settings!
