Help Bluetooth issues

larrygbo

Lurker
Nexus 7 (2012) using android version 4.4.2.
problems are
1) bluetooth will 'pair' and be listed on tablet but when I select the devise on the tablet it only shows 'change name' and 'unpair' not 'connect'. I have tried this with multiple devices paired and with only one paired at a time. These devices are (phone blackberry 9800, smart TV, GPS garmin)
2) a new keyboard is not even detected by tablet.

what do I do to allow tablet to 'connect' to paired devices??
what do I do to 'pair' and 'connect' the keyboard to tablet??

Bluetooth connecting is automatic - it will connect with any device it detects that it's been paired to. Pair it to a headset. Turn the headset off, then turn it on and it'll connect. The same thing should happen with the keyboard. Garmin? Smart TV? Only if the phone has the capability to connect to the Bluetooth services those devices offer. You normally can't send the phone's screen to the TV by Bluetooth, and I have no idea what Garmin uses Bluetooth for.

As far as pairing the keyboard to the tablet, read the manual that came with the keyboard or find one online. (Or find a little "discoverable" button on the keyboard and press it.) You make the Bluetooth device discoverable (by whatever means that device uses) and the tablet will pair with it. If the phone asks you to put in a code, that will usually be in the instructions for the device. (It's quite commonly 0000.)

Thanks for the reply Rukbat.
My problem still exists. Could the tablet be part of my problem??
A few additional details on the bluetooth issue.

Keyboard
There is a tiny manual which I followed. Yes, there is a connect button on the keyboard. The problen is that when searching, the tablet does not report the keyboard as a bluetooth device so it does not advance to showing a code window.
At first I thought the keyboard was faulty so I contacted the seller (Ebay). They replied promptly with questions to ensure I was following the sequence in the manual, using fully charged devices and erase all tablet bluetooth history and try again.
That did not work.

That is when I started looking at the tablet as part of my problem. The GPS presented a condition to allow me to check the bluetooth functionality by using my phone to compare the GPS vs the tablet as explained below.

Garmin GPS
I used the GPS as a 'control' for an experiment. The GPS connected to my phone will transfer my address book from the phone to GPS. when I try the same thing between phone and tablet, the phone shows transfering but at the end the tablet reports 'cancelled by user' but I touched nothing. No data is transfered.
