Bluetooth: Paired But Not Connected

Did a search and found a few threads but not an answer.

Trying to connect a Samsung Galaxy S II LTE to a Sony Tablet S via Bluetooth and use the data plan of the phone on the tablet.

I can get the two devices paired fine but get a message on the Sony saying 'Paired but not connected'. I'm obviously missing a step here somewhere but not sure where.

Thoughts?

The same thing happens to me when I try to connect with my friend's Mac - we wanted to swap some music - it says they are paired but not connected, on both tends...

It's an HTC Eris...
