bluetooth paired device - does it stay connected?

hi all,

this is a slightly odd one

am trying to use an old phone to connect to my m8 via BT only so that delay lock can detect it - but in the devices list on the m8 it only shows as paired, not connected - so im guessing that BT doesnt stay connected if not actively used - is that correct?

My headset stays connected. But if i try to connect an older phone it connects then drops the connection after about 15 seconds just saying paired.
