Help Bluetooth Question

I was hoping somebody with a pretty good grasp on bluetooth could assist me in an odd occurrence I am having with my phone and my car receiver.

I recently purchased a Sony MEXBT3000P head unit for my car for the ability to stream music and make calls. The head unit does both very well and without issue. I've got the phone connected without issue as well. I'm pretty proficient at tech stuff, but this one has me stumped.

The head unit has the ability to display song info (artist, title, track, etc) and does so without issue if the file is actually on the phone. However, when using Google Music and streaming from the cloud, it doesn't show the info (usually)....which I pretty much expected. Everything I've found online supports this. Basically it states that if the file is on internal storage and has the proper tags, it can display them, but anything from online storage will not be shown. The odd thing is, if I simply start the music player on the phone and start a song on internal storage....turn off the head unit, exit the music player on the phone and then fire up Google Music and start streaming from the cloud, when I turn on the head unit and it connects via Bluetooth, all song info is displayed.

The question is this: Is this a fluke, or is there some logic to this (for instance, does starting the music player and playing a song on internal memory start some sort of Bluetooth data transfer that allows the transfer of the online cloud storage info)? If anyone has any knowledge, I'd love to hear it.
