Help Bluetooth Support Discussion

I have the original moto x and just bought myself an early birthday gift last night of the Moto 360. I was concerned about this but it was confirmed this morning. My moto x will only connect to the watch and will not connect to the car simultaneously. Now my moto x has been having WiFi / Bluetooth issues for about a week so it may be tied to that, not sure. But I tried several times and while connected to the 360 my car would not connect to my phone.

I do plan on upgrading the 2014 Moto X or the Nexus 6 but wondering if there are any suggestions in the mean time that might help me through this.

This is odd sounding to me because I don't think Android Wear is an "active" bluetooth connection. In other words, when you connect the moto 360 to the phone and look at the bluetooth devices that are connected, it doesn't show as "connected", just paired. But, there's a passive notification that indicates that the 360 is connected.

That said, when you get in your car, have you gone in to see if the Moto X is actually connected to the car for phone and media audio? And, have you tried muting the notifications (for the 360), when you get in the car?

I have had the 360 for less than 24 hours. :D All I have tried is walking out the door with the 360 paired to my phone, got in the car, started it up (2013 KIA Optima) usually takes a minute for the BT to connect, so I sit for a minute, and nothing, so I went into the BT on the car, and it could not connect to my phone, went to my phone it could not connect to my car.

NOW all this said, as I mentioned I have been having trouble with my BT and WiFi ...can't use them at the same time, if they are both on neither works.

I assume, once I get a new phone this function will work. I am thinking I have something going on with my Bluetooth in current moto x.

It must be car/phone specific - I have a totally different experience. 2013 Honda CRV, Nexus 4 and Moto 360. My phone still auto connects with the BT in the car like it always did and Moto 360 works fine. BEST PART, I love being able to leave the phone in my pocket and give a voice command to the watch to call someone - it pops right up on the car BT. It's one of the coolest things I've found yet in the M360.

Yeah, it might be an issue with the phone. What happens when the 360 isn't connected to the phone? Does everything work as it did before?

I assume so, haven't had a chance to try yet but it worked perfectly last night when I drove home from buying my 360. (before it was ever paired)

Speaking of...I wait 2 months to buy this watch and within 24 hours of my plunking down the money, Moto offers the new ones with metal bands on their site. SIGH  I have the most awesome timing in the world.

Well, you can still return and just buy the metal one directly from Motorola. You're still within your return window.

When you have the chance, disconnect the moto 360 from your phone, using the Motorola Connect app, then try going into your car and see if everything works as it normally would. If so, then you might be a unique instance where dual pairing is an issue. Most Android phones, allow for dual bluetooth connection, especially when it's a passive accessory along with an active one. A good example of that would be bluetooth keyboards connected at the same time as bluetooth headset.

I don't know about your specific car, as far as troubleshooting is concerned, so I'd also check to see if there are any limitations there as well.

I will try that tonight

And I may just take this back, and then go order the 2014 Moto X and Moto 360 all at once and go that route. I have been going in circles on the 2014 X vs. the Nexus 6, and I do not want to wait till December to see one in person (The Nexus 6) to make the decision, I have loved my X I am sure I will love the new one too.

If you wanted to get an idea of the size of the Nexus 6, the iphone 6 plus is almost the same height. Galaxy Mega 5.8 and iPhone 6 Plus are very close in dimensions (not exact, but probably the closest to the similar physical dimensions). LG G Flex is actually the absolute closest, but the curved body might throw you slightly off on overall physical feel.

If any of those phones feel fine, as far as physical dimensions, Nexus 6 might be good one to go with. Other than that, I think the 2014 Moto X looks leaps and bounds a better device than the one you currently have.

Also, not sure if they'll offer the deal for the metal versions, but if you're on ATT, they were having a $50 off special, for those that purchased both the Moto X and the 360 at the same time.

I tried all those out at Best Buy when I was looking at the Moto 360, I think the size would be fine, my wife on the other hand worries that since I have never physically held it in my hands that I might not like it and 700 bucks is too much to spend on something I might hate. Darn her and her logic.

If I get the Moto X 2014 it will be pure edition, so no go on the ATT offer - I already asked them if they were selling PINs yet to order on motomaker, no go. But we are talking about 50 bucks, nothing to stop the world over, especially when we're talking about 7-800 bucks total. Don't get me wrong, I'd love the discount, just not going to get an in store phone I don't want just to save 50 bucks.

Thanks for all your help!

Just thought I'd update. So I got in my car yesterday evening to go home, again it did not connect automatically. I went into my Bluetooth on my phone and tapped the KIA connection and it hooked right up. ??? No clue why it wouldn't before and also no clue why it wouldn't automatically. After that connection however it worked perfectly and the moto/google voice came through my speakers for text and calls worked as before.

So all is well. Except I took it back last night (The Moto 360) so I can order an all metal one off Motorola DOT com.
:D

Thanks again everyone.

Just in case you prefer buying through Best Buy
Motorola Moto 360 Smart Watch for Select Android Devices Silver 00421NARTL - Best Buy

Not sure when they'll be in stock, but wanted to make sure you were aware that it's likely to be pretty soon.

And glad the bluetooth issue was resolved. It probably just needed that initial push, due to the dual connection. I've had that happen with other devices, when dual connection was there (experienced it with the Galaxy Gear).

Thanks for the heads up on Best Buy, I have everything all loaded in my cart at Moto just waiting to pull the trigger after I talk to AT&T. They are not good at promotions BTW. I checked online at ATT DOT com and no mention of the offer they announced Monday with the $50 off if you get both the Moto X and the 360, so I chatted CS through their site, he had no clue, said to call the 800 number, THEY had no clue. So I am going to stop by the corp store on the way home, try one last time and if not, I'll just do it at Moto's site.

IF (BIG IF) AT&T can pull their head out of their...rear, I'd be happy to save the money. If not, if there's no way to get it on motomaker, then I am done with all this.

I have noticed when my 360 comes on while I am driving (cause of steering, etc) and the bluetooth playing music (pandora or music on phone), the connection to the car is interrupted when the watch activates and again when the watch goes off, the transmission is interrupted again. So basically when the watch comes on, the music over bluetooth is interrupted for about 10 seonds. Not sure if its the 360, facer, the LGG3 or the Hondalink.

Muted or unmuted Notifications?

Unmuted.

So I get in the car this morning and try to repeat what it was doing yesterday. No interruption or interference while playing pandora. So apparently its intermittent. Neither device was rebooted, the watch was just charged from morning rather than at around 40% at evening. I even tried changing to moto faces and back to facer, still nothing this time.

Only thing I could think is, if you have the notifications unmuted, just mute them while you're driving. All that does is just mute the notifications from showing up on the watch (they still stay on the watch, if you want to look at them when you're no longer driving...much safer anyway), but maybe the interference was from multiple notifications being pushed, while you were driving and your phone was connected to your car as well.
