Your supposed to make sure you have at least 60% battery to do an update. Battery dying during update is usually the kiss of death. Especially if your charging port is damaged because you can't use Odin anymore. You probably corrupted the firmware, and unfortunately the only way I know of to install firmware is Odin or kies.

Yep. He's is bad shape if he can't get his USB port to work. Only thing i can think of right off hand is to replace the USB port. He needs to make sure he can still get into download mode 1st though. If he can't get into download mode then he's pretty much stuck like Chuck.

Is there anywhere i can download this update? I noticed on recovery mode you can apply update from sd card. So if I could download to pc, put on sd card, then put in phone and recover that way?

Doesn't really work that way. You have to put it in the correct folder in your internal memory, but since you can't boot the system it won't work. But I doubt the update will help you anyways. You borked your system. You probably need the whole firmware.

I was wrong in my original statement. I changed my battery before updating system. It rebooted after installation and remained on samsung screen for about an hour and a half before i removed the battery again to attempt to fix it and nothing. After reading so much online I couldnt really remember when I removed battery first. I guess it doesnt matter and i'll either replace usb port now or just get a new phone (good excuse to spend money on one now)

You say your USB is messed up. Are you sure it's the USB and not just the cable? Cables go bad all the time. I've read where quite a few S3 USB ports have gone bad so that is a very good possibility. I just wanted to make sure you've checked the cable 1st. :-D

Ive tried numerous cables, used and new. Ive read a lot on the subject and have tried every "quick fix" there is and nothing. Ive purchased several new cords just to give them to wife and kids as they didnt work. Cords are not an issue. Thanks though

I had a similar problem with mine and it ended up being a little amount of pocket debris in the back of the usb port not visible . filed down a toothpick and was able to get the junk out . just throwing it out there. Hope this helps.

The update is showing up on Kies for me but I'm not being the guinea pig. I feel much safer using Odin.

No problem. The post below is something else to try. I know sevral people who've had lint and other debris in their USB port. Compressed air can be blown in the port. A filed down toothpick like the member mentioned below would be something to try too.

I'm sure a Google search would give you quite a few ways to clean the port. Hopefully one will work if that's the problem.

As for replacing the USB port itself, there are several post with tutorials explaining how to do it. It has been awhile but Google gave me several links the last time I was helping a friend who had to replace his.

Best of luck.

Good idea. People would be surprised at the stuff that can end up in the USB or mic port.

I've started using cases that have mic and USB port covers. I'm using the Zerolemon Rugged Case right now and it does a great job keeping all the junk out of places it shouldn't get in. The case can be used with both the stock battery and the Zerolemon 7000mAh extended battery. A great buy for $19 and a 180 day warranty. The case has saved my phone several times and the it also comes with a belt clip which doubles as a prop for watching videos and movies. :D
