Root [Boost Mobile] [FIX] Corrupted SD Card

updated op to make it a bit easier for those coming to this thread for help

I saved 90+% of my files on my corrupted SD card!

First Step: first thing i did was backup what was on my SD card by using "PhotoRec" it did an excellent job at finding and reconstructing my files bit by bit sector by sector but it took about 30 hours! with this process every file gets renamed and has no order to it and some files gets separated into many smaller files, but you will get to save most of your stuff with a hassle of renaming everything. (i do recommend backing up what you can by doing this step first)

Second Step: the second thing i did was attempt to fix my SD Card by:
Open up command prompt (start->run->cmd.exe) and type
chkdsk /X /F
My SD card reader is X:\ drive, so i wold use the following command:
chkdsk /X /F X:
and this step was the real HAPPY HAPPY life saver. it did fix my SD card and made it readable again. now i was able to just copy normally all my files, with proper names and structure, to my computer (now i don't need to rename nothing) and i get almost all my files back. some did turn out all wonky but i can live with that.

Here is some nicely printed instructions i found that my help...

things you'll need:

* SD Card
* Computer
* Internet Connection

*1
If your aim is to repair a corrupted SD card so that you can use it to store files then proceed to step #2.
If your aim is to recover the files on the SD card without erasing them, proceed to step #5.

*2
Insert the SD card into a digital camera card slot and choose to format your card. If this doesn't work then move on to the next step...

*3
Place the SD card into your computers SD card slot.
Right click on the SD card drive letter IF it appears and choose to "format."
If this doesn't work, proceed to the next step...

*4
www.sdcard.org
You will need to go to the website
http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter/eula/
Here you will download, install, and run the program to format your SD card. This is the most advanced step of the three, but most likely to work 99% of the time.

CGSecurity - Data recovery: TestDisk & PhotoRec

If you want to recover files ON your SD without erasing them, then you need to download and run the software on this site.
TestDisk Download - CGSecurity
This is the best free software available for this type of problem.

:D

Be prepared for the "PhotoRec" process to take over 24 hours if you are trying to recover data from a 32GB sd card.

Sometimes the filesystem on the card gets corrupted. It can happen for example if the card was ejected while a file operation on it was in progress. When that happens you might have trouble accessing some of the files, loading times for some directories in file explorer may be very slow.
You can attempt to fix it using the desktop windows' built-in chkdsk utility.
Open up command prompt (start->run->cmd.exe) and type
chkdsk /X /F
My SD card reader is X:\ drive, so i wold use the following command:
chkdsk /X /F X:
SD card reader is recommended, but probably not necessary because it should also work with WinMo's built-in USB mass storage function or wm5torage.

Under linux you can check/fix the card's filesysterm and in some cases undelete a file using fsck.vfat or dosfsck (single tool, two possible names). Refer to its help for more details.

My Original Post...
well, my phone has been acting up this week (major lag, random reboots) and a half hour ago just did a random reboot and when it booted back up i got a message that i had no SD card or it is corrupted. GRRRRR...

so i pulled my phone apart to throw the SD card in my computer to recover my pics, files, mp3, blah blah blah... well my computer could not do anything with it, said it was empty and corrupted!

i have a 32Gb class 10 that is/was 80%-85% full

so onto Google i go, i found this program "PhotoRec" and it looked like it was working well, it recovered little over 200 files, but all the files it recovered was useless and files i have not seen on my phone or SD card before... so after 20 minutes of recovering crap files and not one file i would want to keep, i guess it was a flop!

so has any of you gone through this yet and can you recommended a program that will help me save most/some of my pics and things?

There is a recovery tool out there bro and I've read where it's been mentioned and used several times. I cannot for the life of me remember the name of it though.

Let me do some searching. Hopefully I'll be able to find it again. I'll let you know what's up. I'm going to look for it now.

yup i saw that one too.

i went with PhotoRec - CGSecurity
i trying it again, just changed one of the options and now i "think" im getting a better result... its now giving me an eta of almost 10 hours to finish and its alread found ofer 300 pictures... im crossing my fingers...

found this site to be most helpful on some reviews 6 data recovery tools for SD cards, USB drives and more - Computerworld

i do appreciate your help looking for one, you dont have to search for me bro, just was hoping for a "heck yeah i use XXXXXXX many times, it works great!"

*EDIT*
over 700 pics by the time i was done writing this.... I'm getting HAPPY!

**EDIT**
just took a peek in the new folder it created, and YES it is recovering at least some of my stuff, looks like a lot of cached images from the web too (lots of unfamilare pics) but also some that i have taken :)

It's all good bro. I don't mind helping you out and searching. That's what we're here for plus I enjoy it. :)

Glad to hear you're having some success now.

From what I've read, PhotoRec is one of the best ones out there.

I'll have to try these. I had a 32gb class 10 crap out not long ago. Really sucks going back to a 16 GB. Lol

with other cards (and I'm hoping with this card as well) I have been able to just reformat the card and they work normally again for some months before having the corruption problem again.... I always backed up my card often so I never lost much when the corruption would happen. But this time I haven't backed up for like 6 months or more.

ok its still working and doing its job
"PhotoRec" has been running for 9 hours now and has recovered 17 hundred files and a lot of important files i was hoping to recover. the program still has 6.5 more hours to go so it looks like its going to save just about every thing.

if anyone has a corrupt sd card i do recommend this program, just got to get the proper settings and have a lot of time to let it read you bad card.

My computer doesn't even recognize I plug it in. I think mine may be dead. But I'll try after work today.

Can I ask have you ever done a format on the SD card copy and paste everything to the PC/laptop and format that baby and see if you get a pulse. Yes pulse aka sign of life able to use again .

Someone told me buy a card and memorystick and get the proper adapter for it and store good things on the both of them if card goes bad you still have the stick . haven't tried yet .

Hey guys. For those of you who cannot get your pc to read the card, it may be the adapter. I've had 3 adapters go bad on me.

That's not out of the ordinary. I have since given up on the adapters that come with the SD cards and bought a USB micro SD adapter. Best $ spent!

I've had 2 USB adapters go bad too. I'm using the SanDisk SD card adapter now. Works great. It came with my 32gb card.

I tried three adapters with a good card and they all worked. I really wish I could have gotten my card working again. Can't afford another 32gb card for awhile. Oh well lol

I had this problem but I couldn't get my computer to recognize the card. Other than that I found plenty of programs. Hopefully you get all your things back...I hate that this phone does that. My evo design never did that. Oh well..

just an update on the progress of "PhotoRec" ...

just got home and its still running...

Its taking a LOOOOOOOOOOOONG time.... over 24 hours now!

says it still has 5 hours....

but it has recovered most of my stuff

it does not know how to put .apk's back together, it puts them as .gz
also some mp4's and mp3's are broken up into little segments

but altogether its saveing most of my files! :):):):):):):):)

i want to say my card is readable again...
some folder and file names are a bit wonky but i would say at least 90-95 persent of my stuff is saved. apk's mp3's mp4's pics and zips
this method brought my sd card back to life without formatting:

Open up command prompt (start->run->cmd.exe) and type
chkdsk /X /F <SD card drive letter>
My SD card reader is X:\ drive, so i wold use the following command:
chkdsk /X /F X:
