Welcome to the forums! I'm on Virgin Mobile, but same difference as Boost, and a lot of the users view the two forums as more of a combined platform since the phones are virtually identical. Personally, I'm recommending and loving LiquidSmooth, it is fantastic if you want something KitKat. Beanstalk and AICP are really nice too. If you prefer something based on 4.3 TouchWiz, Wicked Sensations is pretty awesome, and MOAR is also very customizable. As far as I know, no problems with tethering on the AOSP based ROMs, don't really run TW myself so can't say for sure on those. Member @wetbiker7 has a great thread in the stickies, and I will link you to my sticky thread on the VM side which has a lot of links for ROMs, kernels, and some other goodies, similar to what Biker has going on here on the Boost side. Again, welcome!

Any questions, don't hesitate to post, and I am always open to PM's as well from any user who has questions!

Welcome to the S3 section of Android Forums. You've come to the right place for information. As my buddy Struckn mentioned, there is a lot of information in both Boost and the VM sections.

As far as ROMs, I agree with Struckn. For AOSP based ROMs, Liquidsmooth is outstanding. For TouchWiz based ROMs, Wicked Sensations, MOAR, and Project-X are great choices. Project-X is going through a metamorphosis right now which involves the addition of the Wicked Sensations mods. Wicked Sensations is on its final build and it's developer has agreed to allow his work to be combined with Project-X. The new ROM, Wicked Project-X, will be released soon so keep a look out for it. It will be definitely be one of the best Touchwiz Roms available.

Struckn has posted some great links. Please use them. If you have any other questions, please ask. Both Boost and the Virgin Mobile sections have an outstanding member base who can provide you a wealth of information.

As for advice, the best I can give you is to read any and everything concerning the ROMs your are interested in.

Apps -

Titanium Backup free or paid- The paid version has been been a huge asset to me over the years

Root Explorer free or paid- One of the best rooted file explores on the market. I use the paid version.

Wifi Tether Router - A great app that allows wifi tethering when the built in hotspots fail to work.

ROM Toolbox free or paid- it has a rooted file explorer along with many other useful tools.

SD Maid free or paid- A great utility.

Tablet Talk- Allows you to tether to your tablet via Bluetooth or wifi. Texts along with voice calls can be done from your tablet via your phone with this app. Personally, I love the app for use with my tablet.

Apk share - allows you to share your apps with friends.

Barcode Scanner- Self explanatory

Keyring- Allows you to do away with all those pesky membership cards hanging on your keychain. It also has discounts for major businesses.

Dropbox- A great app for cloud storage which allows your files to be shared with others.

GasBuddy- a great app to find the best gas prices in your area.

Zedge- A great source for wallpapers, ring & notification tones. It also has games and other features.

These are just a few apps I use on a weekly basis. Hope this helps. :D

I second the paid version of titanium backup. It removes the pesky prompts that ask you if you want to install while restoring.
Tapatalk is a great resource.
I will also strongly recommend Nova launcher regardless of what version you are on. It allows you to make folders in your drawer and has notifications on your app shortcuts if they have unread counts. It's a great launcher. Definetly my favorite.

Teamviewer is a great app for using/checking in on your computer when you're away.
MX player is a great video application that can read almost any file type.
When coupled with Power Amp you can listen/watch any kind of file. My favorite part about power amp is that you can use it to listen to videos without the video.
Tubemate is a great app that keys you watch YouTube videos anywhere by "caching" them to your storage.

Also if you hate ads I recommend ad away

I strongly recommend Philz recovery. Be sure to get the newest version on XDA. So far my favorite AOSP ROM is SlimKat. TW ROMs either MOAR or Wicked... Useful app of the day... Handyman calculator. Does all kinds of neat stuff.

A few more apps.

PlayerPro
ADW EX launcher
Beautiful Widgets
QuickBoot
FastReboot- Allows you to reboot apps without rebooting the phone. This clears up RAM and speeds your phone up.
Quickpic- for your pictures. It has a very friendly UI.
Ring Scheduler- Allows you to turn volume down and set time when you want it to come back on.
MediaFire
Milk- A great radio app for Samsung devices.
SwiftKey keyboard
SeekDroid- security/phone locator in case your phone is lost or stolen.
