Root [Boost Mobile] KitKat ND8 update

More than likely the site hasn't seen the 3G CDMA side of things integrated with the new high-speed backhaul, once that is done expect speeds above 1Mbps on 3G.

On good days I've gotten close to 2mbps on 3G. I get .8 to 1mbps frequently now where I live. I'm usually on my home network but do 3G speed checks frequently hoping one day to see that 3G icon switch over to LTE. :D Oh what a grand day that will be.

I'll still use the home network as my primary but it'll definitely be nice knowing I'll have 4G speeds available if the power goes out. Unfortunately, that happens often in my area.

I good give away if the CDMA 3G eHRPD/EV-DO connection has been integrated with the upgraded high-speed backhaul is seeing ping times around 100ms or lower over 3G.

Had a software update notice waiting for me yesterday morning, from Boost. Looks like maybe they've started pushing OTA? Read thru the thread, didn't see where anyone has posted it yet.

I pulled the zip off the device. Here's the file info:

c958d179908cb7cfedafcc2103fe21db55c8248c.USER_L710_SPT_MK5_to_NDC_Update_FWD.zip
size 397,782,378 bytes
MD5 is 9ee50aa41691eac8a3933c2560057657

Assuming it's the right update... If anyone wants a copy, let me know. I can upload a copy and post the link.

Yes please, if you could post the link I'm sure many people would like it, and @jdsingle76 can probably make a flashable zip for us

Yes but the update itself does no good. It just patches existing files. I'd need someone to make a nandroid and upload it for me. I won't include data.IMG file so be personal data gets cooked into the zip

Edit: They need to flash the update, be successful getting KK update and then flash cwm and get a backup

What we REALLY need is the tar from kies so those of us on nd8 boot loader and modem can flash ndc

Someone posted on the VM side that he just bought a phone and "accidentally" upgraded to 4.4.2. Yes, I know it's VM..but you are gonna show us VM guys some love too aren't ya :)

They are the same! Tell him to flash a nandroid backup and send me the link via pm

Going to try to do the update in a bit. Dunno if the OTA will wipe my data and sd, but doing a backup just in case.

Then after that I've gotta figure out how to flash philz now that my lappy is running linux. Sounds like heimdall is the thing, maybe as simple as "sudo heimdall flash --recovery recovery.img"

Still reading tho... I REALLY don't want to brick my phone!

Guess it won't do any good, but I had already uploaded the OTA update file so here's the link...

**EDIT***
Warning: so far no one has gotten this update to work. I received it OTA from Boost, while running a de-knoxed version of mk5. So it *should* be the Boost OTA kitkat update, I think. (I haven't personally tried it yet, since my ROM is non-stock.) Will leave link up for the time being, just in case.

It's basically the same, heimdall and Odin. But I have never used the former, I have dual boot so I have the best of both worlds lol. But to answer your question, no, the ota should not wipe anything.

Ah, I just assumed if it was available OTA it also was on Kies. My bad.

I got it figured out. If you the ota and don't want to wait, put update. Zip that was posted on external, flash to 100% stock mk5(as long as you haven't flashed Sprint's KK already), reboot into stock recovery, choose update from SD, navigate to your ota, flash, profit

Edit- I have not tested this since I have taken the sprint KK already and flashing back would brick me, but this should work easy peezy. If I wasnt on nd8 already I'd try it lol

I'm not going to try it, yet, but to clarify you're saying to install this as long as you're on MG2 or MK5 bootloader: [FULL RESTORE][TAR] Stock MK5 Odin FLASHABLE [4.3] - xda-developers

My phone is MG2. Then use the update zip from above in stock recovery right? It's tempting. But AOKP works fine **** Samsung haha.

That is correct. And I'm just trying to help you guys get a flashable zip. I'm on S5 now lol. And you can always flash back to your aokp backup through recovery since backups don't flash boot loaders... You'd just have Knox and NDC modem

Oooh, perfect timing, glad i saw this! I literally just tried to run the ota, it rebooted me to philz bootloader, and asked if I really wanted to install. When I saw this, I said no. Guess I need to heimdall the stock bootloader first.

Yeah it won't flash if you're not 100% stock

I flashed the STOCK MK5 tar posted above and then tried to update through recovery using the OTA also posted above and it fails with status 7. Failed while checking current system on file dhd.ko

Yeah that's what a buddy got. May be a bad upload.

Hmm, didn't realize that. Yikes, glad I didn't let phliz run that zip file.

I think your upload may be bad... No one can flash it through recovery.

Edit: And just so everyone understands, the zip ROMs I build using the nandroid are useless unless you have either a) already taken the update and have the NDC bootloader and modem, or b) someone catches the ndc tar ball and you flash that first. KK won't work on JB boot loader or modem.
