Root [Boost Mobile] [MOD] Universal Boost APN fix for D2LTE builds [MOD]

I've been having issues with my phone for days, and I think this thread is related to my issue. I have a Galsxy S3 that was with Sprint, and I moved to Boost. I immediately noticed that my data was not working on Cyanogenmod 10.2.1. I flashed back to stock and stock recovery, and it worked, and I'm working up from there. I tried Cyanogenmod 10.0.0 and the appropriate gapps, simultaneously using TWRP, and data was not working again. I found this thread, and tried loading the Boost APN Fix, but to no avail; I still don't have data. Steps:

1. Install Cyanogenmod and gapps
2. Boot into Cyanogenmod; no data
3. Boot into recovery, and load the Boost APN Fix R2
4. Boot into Cyanogenmod; still no data

I'm frustrated, but do not want to stay with stock. Any more thoughts on how I can debug this? I'm going to restore my 10.2.1 install, so I can look at the APNs (can't in 10.0.0), but I feel a bit stuck.
Read through here I bet your triband

Update: I installed CWM over TWRP and restored my previous nandroid backup (of CM 10.2.1), immediately applied the Boost APN Fix in the same CWM session, rebooted, and eventually LTE came on. So, props to OP and supporters!

Not sure if this is place to post but this doesn't seem to work on the CM12 un-official ports for our device. Is the issue on those roms or on this fix?

I have been trying to find a solution for a few days, and finally decided to get deep into it tonight. Google searches usually sent me to this thread, but the fix posted didn't work on my phone running CM12.1. The more I looked in to it, the more I figured out about how new phones are working. My S4 sph-l720 is a Sprint branded phone running officially on the boost mobile MVNO under their new BYOB device policy. They activate phones older than 1 year with clean esn's now. Anyway, the MCC and MNC of my phone were 311 and 870 respectively. These are not the normal 310 120 numbers sprint uses, therefore this didn't work to fix the APN on my phone running cyanogenmod... nor any rom for the matter.

Below is the work of MopedRyder, junkie2100, punkmaxx, struckn combined with a tweak to fit the new MCC MNC codes. This shows in the build.prop as 311870 under numeric. For you boost folks, it'll get you all set up. Again, this is the network boost uses for this situation. Maybe all boost phones can run it, but I can't test any. The only edits to the original file in the OP were changing the numeric MCC and MNC to 311 870, and adding hipri to the type columns. All else is identical. Still, flash at your own risk. This seems to be the most popular thread for the boost apn fix, so I figured I'd try to help out where people in my situation can find it. Calls, SMS, MMS, Internet, it all works very well for me using this with my preferred network type as Global and Auto: Domestic Roaming selected.

Edit: After thinking about that, I dug some more and saw this commit for CM12.1. http://review.cyanogenmod.org/#/c/101325/
It appears the LTE and eHRPD networks may not need a "bearer" specified. I'm playing with that right now, but the point of this edit is because the CM team has been making changes that may effect the need for this fix to even be utilized. There was a massive apn update as well adding many MVNO providers. I've yet to find out if boost's 311870 numeric code made it in, but by the commit, I'd say it's only the sprint apn even though the boost apn should be the same. If the zip doesn't work right away, you could try deleting the "bearer in the apn-config.xml file after the two boost entries.

This thread is for the s3, not sure if its the same apn settings for the s4. But the reason this thread is hit the most for apn fix is that the s3 was way more popular than any other phone. And it's still being wildly developed for now. Love this thing.

I know. I still have my S3, SII, Epic 4G and Touch Pro 2 in front of me. Man how I miss the hardware keyboards. Either way, boost should still be able to activate a clean S3 on their network, and if someone running cyanogenmod has no service, this might be their answer. Just figured I'd help. I'd test it on the S3 if mine was activated.

So the apn fix you made works on cm12.1? The only way I could get the mopedryder's apn fix to work on any 5.1.1 roms (cm12.1) was to flash rom, gapps and apn fix; boot up fully once, then back to recovery and flash rom and gapps again (no wipe no apn fix this time) and lte worked fine. Works on all cm12.1 roms. I'd like to use yours if it works on the first flash, but sadly I'm on virgin mobile.

See my above edit. Also, you can give it a try. mine worked fine after what I described above. I still haven't decided whether or not to remove the "bearer=13" from the apns as sprint networks don't use a specific bearer. They use two and choose which one by confusing methods which haven't been ironed out yet. Keep it as a trial for the next time you flash.

is there no apn fix for virgin mobile?

I also switched my S4 from Sprint to Boost and I keep getting a Self Service activation message and I can't use my LTE will this fix that problem if so I'll flash this tonight.....

Im running 12.1 and using the nightly from July 14th on my Spring GS3 (modified to use boost). Some text messaging is working, some is not. 3G is working afaik and phone calls work. I think most group messaging isnt working though. My phone is rooted, but when I go to the APN management, its not showing any APN's. Says "APN settings are not available for this user". It does allow me to try to manually add one (though i always discard it because i dont know all the settings. Ive flashed the Universal R2 zip like ive always done with CM12.1 and this was a clean install. I tried the modified R2 that Boomin provided, but no luck there either.

I responded to you on xda.
Full wipe
Flash rom, gapps, and apn fix
Boot up fully once
Boot back to recovery and dirty flash rom and gapps again (no wipe, no apn fix)

right, i was looking for another option. I highly doubt just because my phone was rebooted twice before i did the second set of flashes, then its not going to work.

Dude, I've been doing this a long time. I started this method to get 4g working after a lot of trial and error. It works. Just start over with a full wipe and follow my directions. Or stay broken, your choice. See ya.

OK, i will try it again. When you say boot up fully once, do I do the initial configuration options first and then reboot or should i reboot as soon as it gets to that initial language configuration page?

I usually setup first on WiFi.

Grr, before i got your message i tried it without doing the wifi setup first and I had no luck. Are you using the orignal version of the universal boost fix or are you using the the r2 one? I had been using the R2 method. While I only had 3G access, everything else worked fine. Just wanted some clarification before I tried this again after the wifi setup.

I'm on vm. But I use r2. It's the same thing on both besides actual apn.
Make sure you skip activation if setup wizard asks.
Full wipe
Flash rom, gapps and apn fix
Boot up (and setup I guess) lol
Back to recovery and flash rom and gapps again (no wipe, no apn fix)
All nightly updates are normal, just use ota setting or just dirty flash nightly and wipe cache and dalvik.

Thanks for the help, but Ive given up. I just restored my nandroid backup and used a month old version of the rom and things are working ok again. I decided ive had enough with the older phone and simply bought the moto x (2nd gen) from Republic Wireless and am switching to them and selling my GS3 on ebay. lol

Right on bro. Hey report back your opinion on that 2nd gen moto x. I'm shopping around too and I'd like to hear a real opinion about that one. Thanks.
