Root [Boost Mobile] Need help rooting my boost

Thank you both, I will deff let you guys know if I need any type of help. Ty for the website as well will be spending a lot of time on here till i can find that perfect rom for my needs. Do you know if the Cyon mod is updated as far as the 4g and 3g capable as well as the bluetooth? Because I did like the feel of it just didn't like the lack of capabilities

Some users have been having bluetooth issues with CM11, I don't know if it is a specific nightly or what, since I don't use bluetooth myself, so can't confirm or deny personally. 3G works as it is supposed to for me, however, kind of like bluetooth, can't say about 4G/LTE since that isn't available in my area of the world. Really, doesn't hurt to flash some things and see what works for you and what doesn't. Along with knowing how to modify AOSP ROM's to be flashable for Boost/VM, you will need an APN fix so that data and all works correctly too. I have a thread for CM11 if you want to check it out, it includes some of the nightlies that have been modified so you can just straight up flash them.

And here is a flashable .zip that should fix your APN's after flashing a Sprint ROM. The .zip is courtesy of AlpineMan over at XDA, I just downloaded it so I would have a copy available for linking.

The computer backup is a "just in case" like if you did something weird to your SD card you wouldn't totally lose your files. As far as restoring, you do two things in Philz. First, choose Wipe Data/Factory Reset, then choose Clean to Install New ROM. This will wipe everything that needs to be wiped and nothing more (as in your internal and external storage won't be touched). Then, choose Backup and Restore, then Restore From /sdcard1 (or wherever you chose to save your backups) and it will show you all available backups. One tip about Philz, in terms of the interface, I have mine set to Double Tap, that way the first touch on any menu line doesn't choose that action, it just highlights it. A double tap will choose the action, or highlight and then the enter key. I'm just a tad paranoid in general, and I don't want things getting selected just because I have fat fingers!

For grins, here is the latest CyanFox (new version should be out in a day or so, but 2.0.2 is latest as of this writing!), I like this ROM quite a bit. This is the version I modified and uploaded to my DevHost account, it is not my original work, all credit goes to CyanFox team.

Ready to flash, all necessary mods have already been done to the updater-script, and I have removed all the system apps I never use (see OP of my CM11 thread for a full listing).

PS

I have never got this much help from a website! I will be defiantly be spreading this around!!!

Bro, you've only seen the tip of the iceberg when it comes to this S3 community. The Boost and VM sections are definitely the best ones out here and there are a lot of great members who will go out of their way to help you.

The best advice I can give you is to make sure you read as much as you can. When you think you've got it, read it again. Another thing is something Struckn mentioned earlier. If you have any questions, ask or start a thread. It's best to take time and ask a question. Many have ruined their phones by going forward with something they where unsure of. Trust me when I say that there is no such thing as a stupid question when you are trying to learn. If you are unsure, ask.

I also recommend Titanium Backup and the Pro version/key is a very good investment. Titanium Pro was one of the very 1st apps I bought when I purchased my Prevail 3 years ago. It has came in handy and saved my tail on several occasions. It also comes in handy when restoring your apps if you switch ROMs. Just remember to only restore the app and not the data. Restoring app data from different ROMs can cause serious issues.

Saving a recovery backup and the contents of your SD card to your computer occasionally is also a very good habit to get in to. If something were to happen to your SD card and it failed, you would have that data saved. It's a sad fact but SD cards fail on occasion. Better to be safe than sorry.

Again, welcome to Android Forums S3 section. :D

Also for grins, here is the latest Vanir KitKat nightly. As always, this is not my original work, this has been modified and debloated to my personal taste. Also, I tried something new with this, I converted my personal ringtone and notification sound to .ogg files and placed them in the appropriate spots in the media folder. So, if anyone is a metalhead like me, there is a sweet ringtone called GiveMeLiberty available upon flashing, it is from a song by a local thrash metal band called Havok, great band and great song which evokes principles from our founding fathers! Also, on the notification sounds, there will be one called SomethingYouShouldKnow, which is from a song on Jamey Jasta's solo album (he is the lead singer from Hatebreed, one of my favorite NYHC groups). For those who want to try it, hope you enjoy!!
