Root Boost Mobile Volt - Safe to install roms?

BrentL

Lurker
Is it safe to install ROMs on a Boost Mobile Volt? Will I have to reactivate the phone after installing a ROM? If so, that would be a problem, because they would not activate it I'm 99% sure. Any Boost Volt users that have installed ROMs? Also is it safe to root?

I think there have been a few cases of people having to reactivate but shouldn't be an issue if you do. Yea its safe to root. But rooting and installing a custom ROM DOES VOID your warranty.

Would I keep the plan I was on and not have to pay again?

Yes, nothing changes with any of that unless you change it. I'm on Virgin Mobile and didn't have to reactivate and I'm rooted and running CM 12.
How stable is CM12? What isn't working?

Would I just make the activation call again or would I have to go to their website?

You shouldn't have to do anything. Its stable for me yes. Some people have a few issues like the front camera not working....LTE not working. I don't have any of those. Right now what doesn't work for everyone is NFC and ADB, other then then that its extremely stable for me. I get great battery life..(18+hrs)....strong signals...smooth...just great in general

Thanks for all of your help!

Caution on DeCaf Cyanogenmod 11. It corrupted my external SD card. Had to take the card out of my phone and put it in directly into my computer to scan and fix errors and even after that my .apk's and other files were broken. Also after setting up the rom with all my apps, etc. I plug it into my computer to add music to it. My computer could not see any of the storage on my phone. Went back to stock V5. Too many issues on the custom roms.

Gonna need some proof of that. You didnt say what else you were doing besides flashing my rom. Root, xposed, apps from google play, switching to art, etc all can corrupt an sdcard so unless you can show a definitive link, I'd avoid saying someone's work is shoddy.

Im not mad about it though, I just need to see what happened to see if I actually caused it, and if it was something decaf actually did then what to do to fix it. I'm more than willing to work with anyone who works with me.

All i did was setup WiFi and signed into Google Play. Installed the same apps i've been installing for ages with no problems. Ever. That is it. No Xposed. No need for it with a custom rom. Never switched to ART in any of my phones. And root? Isn't this already rooted. I never had to mess with it. After fixing the sd card errors i reinstalled the rom with the sd card out. Then i put the sdcard back in. All was fine after that. So i thought. Except the computer wouldn't see the phone storage. Reinstalled a third time and it still would'nt see the storage on neither one of my 2 computers. I'm just stating what happened to me. Im not dissing your work and I'm not blaming you.

Perhaps your sdCard was partitioned somehow as a ext2 instead of a Fat32? Did you have link2sd? That would be the only reason your PC isn't seeing the contents is if they aren't on a Fat32. What OS do You run on your PCs?

The external Sd card is not partitioned. No need for it. It's formatted to Fat 32. Plus the computer wasn't seeing the built in storage either. On the stock roms and the other custom roms on here my computer see both storages on my phone. On both my computers. I'm a new member to this site but i'm far from being new to Android and flashing roms.

I know your frustrated about your SD, I would be too. But quite a few people have flashed this with no problem including myself multiple times. There is some reason your SD card corrupted, could be old age, could be formatting, something. But I'm not convinced that decaf cm11 did it until I see proof that it did. Mtp storage works for me every time I connect my phone to my PC also. Make sure also that you are using the correct updated lg drivers for I'm assuming windows. (I don't use windows, Ubuntu full time, but to downgrade to xv3 and other things windows is needed for my gf's win8 machine works just fine. Even with decaf cm11)

In the future here, try not to definitively say that x caused y unless you have the proof to show that it was absolutely the cause. It doesn't help me at all to hear "its broke" without something like a logcat or dmesg to show that it is truly broken and why. Its frustrating to hear that you broke something, without actually knowing if you broke it or the user broke it.

A constructive way to get things like this sorted out is to file a bug report in my rom thread. I don't see things like your original post most times, because this thread is a support question and I don't normally answer those. Also, attach a log cat, dmesg or something to show me what's going on, that way I can have something more than a hunch to work off of.

Hope that clears things up.

There is no USB mass storage support on this phone, even with a ROM, recovery, app or OTG, at least not that I could get working. You haven't said exactly how you were trying to pull it up on the computer, so I thought I would point that out.

Try using AirDroid and see if it can see anything. Might be a clue as to where the problem lies.

So my question is, if I install the ROM available will SMS/MMS messaging continue to work or do I have to use a 3rd party app to send multimedia messages?

You'll probably have to use another app. Textra is good, but has recently put in unobtrusive ads. Google messenger is another good option.
