Help Boot animation

Newbie
I need help changing the boot animation on my prevail. My friend said that I should use one that fits my resolution and I found one, 320x480. I had recently tried to change it before and I think I messed something up, could someone tell me how to change the boot anim? I'm running through boost and they have their own custom anim so I'm a bit confused. Also, could someone give me the original "system/media" folder? I made a backup but I lost it.

If you're going to be making changes to the boot animation then you need to root the device. Without rooting you cannot have access to that part of the file structure.

If you're going to be rooting the device then head over to the All Things Root section of this thread and look into Odin.

Odin will get you rooted and changing animations at will. You can also get the stock rom in the Odin thread. It'll put your phone back to factory settings. You will not need someone's /system/media folder since Odin will recreate yours. You can make another backup. Save it this time.

On a side note your animation doesn't really have to be 320x480. It can be any size but the results are mostly unpredictable. You can also unzip the file of a larger animation and re-size the pictures that make up the animation. There's a tutorial for making your own animations somewhere and it'll give you the necessary know how if you want to do that. Google is your friend.

You might want to take a look at this thread http://androidforums.com/galaxy-pre...animations-custom-boot-animations-j6remy.html it'll give you the necessary queues to make things easier on you.

Good luck.

Thanks! I do have it rooted, and I wanted it to be 320x480 so it looked right. I understand that the animation is just a bunch of .png pictures. I shall look into Odin now, thanks for the help! :D
