Root boot animations... they wont stick

I'm running CM6 (kick ass rom btw) tried to change my boot screen a few times,i had to change around 5 times because the place i got the boot animations from had no screen shot for them so i just had to load each one to see which i liked.

turns out i didnt like any of them,i like the one i had so i load up my CM6 boot and .... the boot is just like the original stock 2.1... i tried over and over to load my CM6 boot animation.. and i still get the 2.1 stock....

anyone know why it's doing this?

for some reason bootanimation.apk is down atm for a while now, but you can search on xda, there's plenty boot animation with previews on there site.
