Help Boot loop after removing latest 'Google now' update

wakeypat

Lurker
Hi
A few days ago my 'Google Now' was updated. This left me with a white app screen and a white 'Google now' launch bar. I didn't like them so I uninstalled the update via the Google play. It didn't stop me and happily uninstalled but then my home screen was just black. I switched off and on and now I just get the four bouncing coloured dots, but the Android OS doesn't load. (I was still on KitKat, having declined the lollipop update).

Any idea's other than a factory reset?

Thanks pat

Thanks for the info. Tried a cache wipe, unfortunately no better. looks like a factory reset. (strangely, even though the four bouncing coloured dots was all I could get, I heard an email arrive, so apps are working ok, it just looks like is only started booting.
Ah well, I suppose a clean phone won't hurt!
Thanks again
Pat

On the Nexus devices, Google Now/Search are tied into the Google Launcher. If you disable Search, the Google Launcher is disabled, and now, your phone doesn't know what to do after booting up.
In your case, I know you wrote you uninstalled the update (instead of disabling it), but I suspect that may have caused the same issue.

Unless you have already tried factory reset, try this - ask somebody else with a mobile phone to call you. Hopefully you will get the prompt to answer. During the call, pull down your notification bar and go to settings/apps and look at the settings of the Google app. If it is disabled, enable it. That should fix it.

If not, go to your Google play store account (using a computer), and install a custom launcher (any of the well known ones - Nova, Apex, etc) onto your device. Get to notification bar (above) and choose that launcher as your default launcher. Then, go thru' settings and re-enable the Google app (or you can continue to use that custom launcher)

Hi
If only I'd waited another hour! Just going through setup after factory reset. Many thanks for your helpful response, hopefully this will help others out that fall foul of a similar issue.

Thanks again
Pat
