boot loop and no recovery installed.

Kee20005

Lurker
I am very new at this and I have fallen at the first hurdle.

My Vodafone 858 (Huawei U8160) is stuck in a boot loop and I have no recovery software installed on the device.
I tried to install SmartLucky onto my phone, I managed to root the phone and I used Rom Manager to install Clockworkmod Recovery but it never seemed to take, because of this I now have no recovery software on the phone at all. I decided to give up. Then I got an online update from Vodafone, it asked me if I wanted to install, I clicked yes, the phone restarted and thats when it got stuck in a boot loop.
Please can somebody help me as I am absolutely useless as is my phone.

Welcome to Android Forums, Kee20005.

You've got quite a challenge, trying to recover from what is likely a corrupted bootloader with no recovery software.

I'd first make sure it's fully charged, just to take low battery out of the equation, then I'd try various button combinations long pressed (power + volume up, etc) in a last ditch effort to find a recovery menu, hoping the stock one may have survived.

The other option, of course, is to send the device to the manufacturer for paid repair or exchange.

If there are more options, I'm hoping that somebody will chime in.

I think vol down + power is the universal method of getting into the bootloader, but then you could do a factiry reset like Frisco suggested. Good luck!

Hekee20005, sorry to hear you are having trouble.

For your device you can get to recovery by powering off (if you are boot looping pull the battery) then holding volume up while pressing power, you will first get a black screen with an hourglass, keep holding volume up and power on this screen until you get to recovery.

I would first try wiping cache and dalvik cache and trying to reboot. If that doesn't fix it try a factory reset and cache wipes again.

Most likely the update from the OEM needs the stock recovery installed to work without any problems. I will see if I can find a easy way for you to update.
