I did a lot of research on similar issues before deciding that mine is different. I apologize if the answer is out there already, I just couldn't find it.
Anyway, my phone got wet about a week ago and now it's stuck in the dreaded boot loop. The phone was on when it got wet. I mention that because it got wet once before but the battery was dead and the phone restarted fine after I dried it out.
Some useful info (I think anyway):
The phone is on the stock ROM (i.e., not rooted).
I can access the Download mode but Odin (v1.85) does not recognize the phone. Windows does not recognize it either. I tried reinstalling the Samsung drivers for USB connections to phones with no luck.
I can access the Recovery Boot mode but not easily. I've discovered that I have to press and hold the power button again after releasing it upon seeing the first Samsung logo. I have to release the power button at a very precise moment upon seeing the menu options in Recovery Boot mode or the phone will simply power off and go back into the boot loop. Once I have the menu available, I can make selections but as soon as I select Yes it starts to carry out the action briefly but then powers off and goes back into boot loop.
Taking the battery out stops the boot loop. Plugging the power cord in with the phone off will force the phone to power on and it will go into boot loop.
I can also stop the boot loop by holding the power button once the second Samsung logo appears. The only problem is that the screen just goes blank and nothing else happens. The phone doesn't even turn off. Once I release the power button it shuts down and then starts the boot loop all over again.
I fear something internally may be fried causing a short in the power-up circuit but I don't know anything about the board or how likely that theory is.
Any additional suggestions would be appreciated.
Last thing to mention, I don't care about recovering anything from the phone. I upgraded to a GS4 and simply want to get the GS3 working so I can sell it back.
Thanks!
