Ok, fill a newb in on what was going on?

Currently investigating root and how to get there blah blah blah...

I know that it isn't a big deal but the prospect (however remote it may be) of a $500+ brick is not enticing.

I know that it isn't a big deal but the prospect (however remote it may be) of a $500+ brick is not enticing.

Look for the "Video guide to rooting N1" thread and follow that closely.....it links to TheUnlockr website. Also, check out the Developers website whose ROM you are wanting to use....e.g. Cyanogen (recommended!), Modaco, XDA Developers (where all the Dev's seem to hang out).

Bricking your phone is highly unlikely, as long as you follow the instructions closely (i.e. religiously!). Flashing the Radio image (you will find out about this) is slightly higher risk but again, follow the instructions and you will be okay. Also make sure you check the file downloads are not corrupted.

It is good fun though Plus, rooting gives you access to lots of other useful apps (N1 Torch, SetCPU for battery saving, etc).
