Help Bootloader Question

No, rooting is a separate bit.
You can still root and have a locked bootloader.

I believe also without an unlocked bootloader, you cannot flash roms or kernels or even a custom recovery...all you have is root*.

I could stand corrected, but that's what I understand.

*Now, if I am correct, with my old Samsung S3 on Verizon, they locked the bootloader after a certain Android version update...however, some smart dev found a way to install a recovery with the locked bootloader.
Not sure how it is with other devices though;)

Thanks for the info, it was very helpful. Is there a straightforward way to know if a rooting app will work for your phone I know how to check the kernel date on a phone, but how do you check it on an app you might want to use?

A rooting app?
Such as Towelroot? (among others).
I would guess the best way to know if a rooting app works for your device, is to either ask about it in your device's root forum here at AF. While waiting for an answer, search the web...XDA for example.
The other option is to google your device model number/root process....keywords like that.

Or simply ask here :)

I do see you are asking alot of questions in different threads, and that's awesome! I hope you are getting the answers you are looking for :)

Thanks! :D. I am fascinated with this whole rooting thing and want to know as much as possible. I always tell my friends to ask me anything about Android (rooting included) and if I don´t know the answer I investigate for them. Knowledge knowledge knowledge! ha ha. That´s why I may ask about a device I don´t even have.:). You have been very helpful, Thank You. Hopefully I can be a moderator some day (daydreaming), ha ha.
