Root bootlooping in safestrap

to start, im not a rookie when it comes to rooting, but i am when it comes to rooting motorollas. the razr was the first ive done. i was using bootstrap for a while just fine, but then i found a rom that required i use safestrap. i have no idea what the difference is.

i downloaded the safestrap apk and installed it then opened the app and installed the recovery. i powered off the phone to see what the differences were and it eventually brought me to the screen that says [menu] for recovery and [search] to continue. if i push menu, it takes me to a screen with the clockwork mod sign in the background and no words. i can push power from there and it will bring me back to the beginning of safestrap.

if i push search, or let it sit for like 10 seconds, the screen goes completely black. i noticed it is on, because i can see the infamous blotches that the razr has, but the screen is all black.

i just need to turn the phone on, i know what to do from there... any way to do that? i dont care what it takes

The onlything that comes to mind is a factory reset thru stock recovery. Hold vol up, vol dow, and power for 20 sec then nav with vol down, select with vol up.
Thats all i can think of.
Hope this helps.
Edit: thats from powered off.
Hold vol down, and power for about 20 sec to simulate a batt pull.

kelmar: no i didnt, i tend to think i know what im doing and skim through directions... ill try that fastboot reset

mislead: i think i got to the menu you were talking about, but factory reset wasnt an option. and would factory reset remove my recovery?

EDIT: scratch that, i got into the android stock recovery

Yeah... next time disable bootstrap first ;)

Using RSD and fastboot will get you going. Hopefully you had a pretty full battery!

im pretty sure it was around 80 so i should be fine... the only bad thing is that 1GB file is going to take forever to download... is there any other way?

I have a feeling the recovery works, because if i push power, it goes to a black screen, but still on. If i push vol up then power, it turns off completely. if i push vol down then power, the screen does a quick flash...

it seems that the recovery is working fine, it just isnt showing me the options and it cant reboot. would i be able to do anything to turn it on out of the recovery by just remembering where i am and what i need to select? i would need someones help with how many volup's and voldown's...

ps im downloading the fastboot file as we speak, its estimated at 53min left

TBH, I'm not sure. I always make sure I've got the file handy though.

Ummm... torrent link?? But with one person seeding it would be pretty slow too.

nvm. i have no idea what just happened, but my phone turned on... haha

some random combinbation of vol keys and power button got it :)

thanks for your help guys, your quick responses is why this is my favorite forum.
