I should have clarified my phone is Virgin Mobile, so it's Sprint network CDMA not GSM. The sim is for 4g. Otherwise I think you were right about it not being seated properly. You do not do PRL updates with GSM... you can actually cause yourself issues if you do and it somehow succeeds, not really sure what "profile updates" are. Bootstrap is a part of recovery to flash a factory image when "normal" means fail, are you unlocked, rooted, and with custom recovery, this error can sometimes occur when an OTA is pending but you don't have stock recovery.
TBH though, sounds like you have a bad SIM card or bad connection to the SIM. Try cleaning the SIM contacts with 90%+ isopropyl alcohol or getting a replacement SIM. Then again, if it goes away and doesn't come back, maybe it just wasn't seated properly.
Pretty much same issue here, I periodically get toast with "bootstrap failed" take out sim air blast port re insert card. Think a design flaw port. May try wedging paper to get tighter fit. Otherwise mostly annoying and does not seem to affect performance yet.I BOUGHT A MOTOG ABOUT A MONTH AGO. NOW I AM GETTING BOOTSTRAP ERRORS AND ALSO MY SIM CARD SEEMS TO UNSEAT IT SELF ON ITS OWN. THIS A A REPEATING PROBLEM FOR WHICH I HAVE NO SOLUTION AND I AM HERE LOOKING FOR A SOLUTION I HOPE IT IS NOT TO GET A NEW AND DIFFERENT PHONE
Think I found a way to turn off bootstrap notification, see my post above. 3 days and no bootstrap toastI LIKE THE PAPER IDEA FOR A TIGHTER FIT SOUNDS LIKE A POSSIBLE SOLUTION I AM GOING TO TRY IT RIGHT NOW

Glad it worked for you also, going on 4 days now without the annoying notifications.
Worked for me as well! Thanks for sharingBeen searching around for solution to annoying bootstrap notification and may have found it. Go under all apps and locate the app "network system provider" uncheck notification. So far no more annoying notifications. 2 days and counting.
This helped me too buddy. Thanks for the find. I used paper from a pack of smokes to wedge it in there, worked like a charm! Never saw that annoying toast again.Glad I was able to help. Those notifications drove me insane and I see I was not the only one
