Bored of the ICS waiting game! :P

So yeah, as the title says, i'm getting bored of waiting for samsung to release ICS and from what I gather, touchwiz has pretty much made it the same as GB anyway!

So! Couple of questions really.

I really would like to flash CM9, but there isn't a 'stable' release out yet. How stable are the nightly's? I've had a read through their forum and stuff and it doesn't seem like people are having serious issues with it, seems like small things like DSP and stuff.

Anyway, if someone is using CM9 and can recommend it for daily use that would be great.

If CM9 isn't quite ready for daily use though, can anyone recommend me a different stable mod to have a go with?

Cheers :)

I got a little secret to share with you. Samsung officially released ics about 2 Weeks ago!
:)

my advice to you would be to stick with gingerbread until the problems in ics get ironed out. Us gingerbread sitting-on-fencers are having a hoot watching all the ics guinea pigs complaining about how bad it is! :)

a checkrom ics release will be a good yardstick for me as to when to take the ics plunge.

for the time being, you won't go far wrong with checkrom v6 on gingerbread running either siyah 2.1.14 or neak 1.4.2 kernel and you will have a warm smug feeling of having a phone that is reliable and does exactly what it says on the tin! :)

If you are looking to still try CM9 then I can say it's pretty stable for my use but your milage may vary, obviously some things do not function correctly. It is an ongoing update process and what worked one day may not be as good the next nightly. If you rely on your phone for anything important then stay away. It's probably something you need to stick with so if you think you will want to jump back to gingerbread then probably best to stay where you are to avoid issues.

omega v8 ICS is pretty stable if you're in the market for a custom rom, but still a bit laggy compared to checkrom/gingerbread etc. has its own kitchen full of goodies too.

battery life is decent enough with the bloatware removed/froze and a good kernel installed. i found neak ICS best, with speedmod a close second. siyah didn't play too well for me with some of my mods, but its all early days yet.

So just been messing about getting my home screen back looking snazzy as CheckROM took off the accuweather widget! Got beautiful widgets and made that look nice though so all is good :D

So yeah, running happily on CheckROM RevoHD V6 and N.E.A.K-1.4.2

Cheers Guys :D

Samsung have already releaded an updated version of ICS 4.0.3, now 4.0.4, for the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus. This contains various fixes, see here:-

So back onto subject :P

I'm not getting great battery life with checkrom and neak, maybe even less than I was with Stock GB.

Any ideas? Would I get better results perhaps switching to Siyah Kernel?

I get a reasonable battery life with the combo you are on and the tips mentioned above...

CheckROM v6 with NEAK kernel (Siyah is the same)

I remember noticing the battery took a bit of a hit in checkrom v6 compared to v4.
I found neak to beslightly better than siyah in terms of battery life but there isn't much in it at all.
All I can suggest is to look in betterbatterystats to see if there are any suspicious wakelocks occurring

i get great battery life with check and siyah (easily 2 days of medium use). i never bothered tweaking siyah and it runs great out of the box. battery life also depends a lot on how you set up your phone too, regardless of rom/kernel. ie. brightness, use of data/wi-fi, running data eating widgets, app update schedules, email/push checking intervals, social network updates etc.

So i'm still getting poor battery, today especially.

unplugged my phone about 7am and 13hrs later it wants feeding again :/ I've not even been using it that much.

I put on the betterbatterystats and it didn't really give much insight into the problem. It shows the wifi using a good chunk of battery, but my wifi was on when i was on standard gingerbread too and that used to last 2 days.

Only other thing I can think of is Beautiful widgets. I put this on after i'd flashed as I wanted a weather app on my home page and Checkrom took off samsungs one.

Could this be the culprit?
