Both $350: Vizio VIA 8 Inch Tablet or Galaxy Tab 7 Wifi only

Both the Vizio VIA 8 Inch and Galaxy Tab 7 inch Wifi only tablets are currently $350 and I was wondering which one gives more bang for the buck. I bought the Galaxy Tab because of all of the rave reviews, but then I later read that the Wifi only version was neutered and doesn't have the same processor and speed as the original one.

I was walking at Walmart and saw they had stickers and prices for the Visio but they didn't have the actual tablet on display. Vizio teases 8-inch tablet as launch nears

Which of these would be the better buy? (I can still return the Tab for 2 weeks).

One other thing, I didn't know that you need Wifi to use GPS, I thought Wifi was just for the internet. Is having Wifi a requirement to use GPS on all tablets? I was thinking that I could use it to replace my TomTom for navigation but I didn't know a Wifi connection was required.

If HDMI out and even worse looking UI is your thing, go for the Vizio. If I were you, I'd stick with the Tab.

LOL, no that's not my thing. On a few sites, it was reported that the Vizio VTAB1008 would have Android 3.0, but I see it's only assumptions because nobody knows all the specs yet.

I had originally bought the Huawei IDEOS S7 Slim 7-inch Android tablet from Best Buy for $300 but locked it up when I put ADW home on it. I returned it and spent $50 extra for this Galaxy Tab. Basically I just want to get the most bang for the buck, and $350 is my limit.

Thanks, I didn't know it was getting Gingerbread.

Even though the Wifi only Tab 7 is currently running 2.2/Froyo, I haven't noticed any major issues with it.

i don't know this for sure, but if it's like android phones, it depends on the GPS software and provider. GOOGLE gps requires wifi or data connection to get the maps and while it has some caching, it's not ideal for cruising around in areas where there is no wifi.

other programs allow you to download your maps and store them permanently on the device. I've been using one I found in the Market called Sygic. After a free trial, I paid like $20 one time fee and it's been great. All my maps are on my device (phone) and the GPS works great regardless of whether or not I have a data/wifi connection.

I see no reason why the same thing wouldn't apply with a tablet. Maybe someone can shoot me down here, but you should be fine as long as you get a gps program that puts your maps on the device permanently.
