Both email apps sending notifications

I use the 'Email' app (or, found in the universal Messaging app) rather than the 'Gmail' app. Both came with the phone. However, both apps are sending notifications. Is there a way to stop the Gmail app from sending notifications without deactivating the account?

In the gmail app, goto settings, notifications and you can turn it off there.

Bah! Okay, found it. Sometimes it's hard to find the settings in Android, as I am used to iPhone.
