Root Bottle of Smoke Question

So, I have installed Bottle of Smoke honeycomb on my gtab and it is really cool! I have installed a buch of apps and have set it up the way I like it, but have started to run into a couple of problems that I thought I would try to understand.

1. It seems to have really slowed down in its response to touch and swipe. Launching apps, etc. will take quite a while. I thought that I read that bottle of smoke does not have hardward acceleration. Could that be the reason for the symptoms I am experiencing? Could it be that I am maxing out my storage? (however, I don't think I have used up all of that much storage).

2. When I send emails from my exchange email account, reply messages get stuck in the outbox, and do not get delivered. Again, an issue with storage or something?

Any insight would be appreciated!

I tried two of the honeycomb ROMs and had major lag problems once I installed several apps. It could be the lack of hardware acceleration, but I don't know for sure. I can't comment on the exchange problem because I do not use it.

Thanks for your reply. So, I'm curious - did you end up installing a different Rom with better luck? If so, which one?

I am guessing my email issue is an exchange authentication problem.

Thanks again!

I went with cm7. That's what I use on my phone, and it runs well on my tablet with vtl launcher. I'll probably try the honeycomb ROMs again once they're further along.

BoS is pretty out of date compared to Gtabcomb and Flashback. I use flashback and I have zero lag especially when it comes to the launcher and launching apps.

If you don't want to try another rom, have you tried updating your kernel? Pershoots newest GB kernel is pretty good and its installed on my ROM. Don't forget to choose the right bootloader for your kernel. Also don't skip any steps when it comes to wiping like davlik cache.

Thanks for the info! I haven't checked the available Roms in a few weeks - is Flashback new? Are Flashback and Gtabcomb stable, or is there a list of current issues? (I have the 1.2 BL so Gtabcomb is not an option for me, if I understand correctly). I have enjoyed playing with different roms, but am getting to the point where I want to pick the a really stable version and stick with it for a while. I love HC because it is really cool, but if they are all still pretty unstable, I may go with something a little more stable.

Thanks again!

can't comment on flashback as i have not used it, but Gtabcomb is blazing fast for me and has very few issues. also, it IS now available for the 1.2 bootloader.

SolidOrange - is my take on Bottle of Smoke correct? Is it a lack of hardware acceleration that I am experiencing?

i don't think so. as far as i know, gtabcomb 3.3 (and all other HC builds) still do not have working hardware acceleration. however, i don't think that is required to actually launch apps as the lack of acceleration would only come into play inside a running app. i could be completely wrong on that, but i will say that gtabcomb is just as fast as any froyo/gingerbread rom ever was for me.

Thanks. And bottle of smoke - is it just as fast as well? Just trying to narrow down the cause of my experience.

never ran BoS as i am on the 1.1 BL. GtabComb is the only HC rom i have used at this point so i really have nothing to compare it to other than froyo/GB ROMs. hopefully someone who has used both will chime in.

on another note, did you format your system in CWM when going from a 2.X based ROM to your first HC build? it will erase absolutely EVERYTHING on your tablet, but since it was recommended to make sure that you have a clean base for 3.X roms, i did it anyway. this may clear up some of your lag issues, but you have to be willing to sacrifice everything on your internal SD to do it. i got around this by copying the files i knew i wanted to keep over to the external SD before formatting.

I think I did full format and lost everything, which was fine with me at the time. So, I did a little research on the GtabComb links you sent over, and seems that people have a few glitches, just like me with BOS. Now, I realize these are alpha, or beta at best. Is it your understanding/experience that GTabComb is just as bulletproof, stable, fast as any froyo/GB rom you have run? I have been enjoying trying out different roms, but I am ready to find a home that I can set up and keep for a while. I would love to have that home be a HC rom because it is so cool, but mostly, I want it stable and quick. Thanks again!

I'm using GtabComb and its great but I notice that in the settings under running processes it tells me I have a total of 256ram instead of the full 512.

Does yours do this as well?

My GTab (with GTabComb 3.3) has 125M used & 198M free. It is in good shape and does not present any lag (except sometimes with the network).

The most important issue is how much FREE ram you have. If you are tapping out the ram, then it must swap something out each time you execute an app. That is where the lag comes from. Try to CLOSE apps when you are finished with them - rather than allowing them to run in the background.

Also, when you have the entire Data partition (2gig) filled up with apps, then it seems the GTab will slow down and start lagging. Moving all the larger apps (5meg or greater) to the (internal) SD Card will help.

Note that some widgets will not work if the app is moved to the SD Card. But an app like Earth (90meg) can take a LOT of space and it works fine from the SD on my Gtab.

Hope this helps.
