We just got my gf a htc hero to replace her lg. It came with with android version 1.5 I'm looking to update her old market to a newer version. She's very limited on the Apps in her market. Any suggestions help would be great. Thanks

First thing to do is update that thing to 2.1. Use the official Sprint/HTC RUU. You can find this online. Then, IMO, the next best thing you can do is use z4root to root the handset and the look for CyanogenMod 7 (CM7) and install that ROM and the GApps (Google Apps) to go with it. Then you will have a Sprint Hero on Android 2.3 that has the nice new market to match it. Not many people will see this post, but the few that do will be knowledgable. Hopefully your GF is not far from an upgrade. The Hero isn't getting any younger.

Thread moved to the root section. If you want the very newest Android Market, you will need to root and flash an Android 2.2 or Android 2.3 ROM.

Google stopped supporting Android 2.1 and lower with the latest and greatest Android Market. You will not be disappointed with Android 2.2 or Android 2.3 though as they both are more efficient battery wise and quicker speed wise, which goes a long way towards breathing new life into an aging handset.
