Hello there, As a long time iphone user, I awoke two days ago with a sudden urge to throw away my iphone and get and Android phone. So that's exactly what I did. I love my new phone, but I just had a few questions. The first one is regarding the data plan. Don't ask me how, but I never had a data plan the whole time I had an iphone. So this is the first time I've had a data plan and I was just worried about my limit. If I have 4g data on all the time, but I'm in my house where I have wifi and my phones connected to the wifi, it will always use the wifi, right? it wont suddenly change from wifi to 4g and start using data would it?

And my other question is regarding my phone, its the only weird thing I've noticed so far with is. So I set a lockscreen pattern for security so that no one can just unlock my phone and start using it. The thing is, the patten unlock screen only shows up every now and then. A lot of times I lock my phone, then when I unlock it it just goes right in without asking me for the unlock pattern. Anyone know why that is?

The phone should use wifi first when available, add for the lock screen, check your settings... There will probably be an option to change the time it takes for the lock to kick in but I can't find our Again on my own phone....

In your house the phone will always use WiFi.
Install an app like 3G Watchdog and you can control your data use.

The security pattern have time out setting.
I think it's set to several minutes to delay the lock.
You might set it to no delay.

Check your settings for the display and lock screen. Set them for the same time and it should work everytime. For example: I have my lock screen to engage and display to turn off after 1 minute. If I turn off my display and turn the screen on again before 1 minute has passed, the lock screen will not appear.

I use "My Data Manager Pro" to monitor my data. You can have data turned off, at a data limit you chose. There is a widget for it and it can be placed in the notification bar.

install a widget that can turn data on or off with just one press. that's what i do to have full control over my data. i would not recommend leaving data on when you're not using it because there are always apps running in the background that will use data without you realizing.

also, if your phone is running the latest version of android (ice cream sandwich), there is a graph in the settings that shows your data usage and you can set a monthly limit that will not allow the phone to exceed it. you can also set a warning to tell you when you are getting close to your limit.
