Help Brand new T-Mobile account deactivated?

Hello all,
I just received my G2 Touch this morning with a Combi 30 + Web contract from T-Mobile. I was in a bit of a rush to get to work, so I stuck the SIM in the phone, powered up a bit and headed off. Now I've found out (via a text message from T-Mobile) that my account is out of credit and has been deactivated. I was given a number to add more credit to use the phone again. I know this is wrong, I mean I just got the phone on a new contract.
Does anyone know why this may have happened? I didn't read much of the instructions, do I have to "activate" my SIM somehow or something? Seems very strange that a brand new pay monthly SIM (labeled as such) is asking me to add credit.
I can't use my phone at all! Please help!
(FYI, I've contacted T-Mobile too, awaiting their reply. Asking here because I figure you all may be quicker than customer support)

I can say for sure ... but I have a TMO FlexPay account on one of my G1 phones .. and I get immediate help when I call ... My card is replenished automatically by my credit card ... but if you do not have that set up .. you might just be in the wrong side of the monthly account cycle ... I would call CS until you get someone that will help you ... and it may be a tech-network issue ...
