Help Bricked After Attempting MetroPCS Official 2.2 Update

Tanj!

Lurker
So I attempted to run the official 2.2 update for my MetroPCS Ascend last night. Stock phone never rooted etc etc. Followed the directions for the WiFi upgrade options on MetroPCS's site. Everything seemed to go okay until the final reboot. Phone rebooted and hung on the white Huawei screen saying "The first step finish! Please do not remove the battery and wait next upgrade to Froyo!" I let it sit there for over 30 minutes before pulling the battery. Subsequent reboots stopped at the same point.

Next I tried a hard reset using the up volume+end+power trick. Phone does it's thing, reboots, gets past the white Huawei screen and gets stuck at the Android screen for 30+ minutes. Reboots get me to the same point.

Now it's time to try reflashing the stock firmware. I download the stock image from here and follow the directions. I get a FAILURE when writing the recovery image however. All other steps process fine. When rebooting afterwards it continues to hang at the Android logo. I've tried this on two separate machines (XP & Vista), downloading drivers and recovery package from two different sources, and have even tried two different cables all with the same result.

So what can I try next to get the phone working?

Ugh, I'm glad I have Cricket. I'd try it again, probably on the Vista, with fresh downloads. It's taken me 4 attempts to successfully flash a couple of times in the past. It sounds like you're doing a good job of covering your bases, though. It's quite possible to get 2 bad downloads in a row.

Well lets say I've gone through the stock flashing process more than a few times already. I'll try red-ownloading the data again a few times since I haven't gone to far down that path yet.
