Root Bricked dilema

Okay, So I have the HTC Evo v 4g from VM, it recently had the update from vm in march, and it messed with my messaging, so I figured that I would just root and flash a rom to use. I have had plenty of experience with the task, I have owned a number of phones and tablets (nook color) so I am acquainted with the process.

Unfortunately, this is the first phone with actual service that I have done this with.

Apparently I was still on the 1.58.0000 HBOOT when I started, and I don't know if this affected anything or not.

I was following the angry bean rom forum, and I went to do the S-OFF thing, and I forgot to remove my 32gb sd card, so not only did I lose the recovery backup file, I no longer can boot into anything. I now boot the phone up and I am greeted by this screen:

DSC_0884 | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

I can boot into the bootloader, I can use fastboot, I was able to install 4EXT and TWRP recoveries, but no matter what I do in either one of these, I can't get rid of the aformentioned screen. I really don't know what to do.

I tried to brick the phone, to start the process after that, but allof the RUU applications fail saying that my version is old.

any help would be appreciated.

I don't think you can S-OFF after doing the march OTA update. But never heard of anything booting to Flickr.

Have you tried running the latest RUU

Ya, I didn't know this. it didn't boot to flickr, lol, a pic of what it was.

anyway, I really just want to go back to stock if i can, I need a functioning phone. I can't find the latest RUU. Link?

I had the same issue the first time I tried to get s-off. To get out of that screen I powered down the phone and took out the battery for about a minute. After the minute I put the battery back in, replaced the rear case then held down the down volume button and pressed the power button (being sure not to let off of down volume when doing so). This brought up the bootloader screen, from here I selected recovery. Once in recovery I restored a back up I made and I was up and running again, with s still on however. I later went back and tried the s-off process again with a paper clip instead of a wire, that attempt was successful. All of this was before the march OTA however. I cant say personally how the update would affect your intent to get s-off, I believe you can still root and flash a number of ICS roms even with s-on. The app 4ext will let you flash roms that require s-off, you will still need to mind the hboot requirements of the respective roms as you will still be 1.58.

You can S-OFF after the march OTA...you just can't RUU.

So you'd have to S-OFF, then RUU if that's what you wanted...but if you're S-OFF and have all the latest firmware, you'd only RUU if you seriously bonked your phone.

I think this is where I am lost.

Try running jbear again, tell us what the computer says when you're done.

I tried funning the hboot ruu, no dice. attempting to run jbear just brings the still sober message at the very end

Are you using a wire? Try using a paper clip wrapped in tape with only the ends exposed. My first attempt I was using a wire and was in a similar predicament. If you want to give up for now, you can get out of that screen by booting into the bootloader, going to recovery and either restoring a back up or flashing stock based rom (e.g. Stock VM , Harmonia).

Use a colored paperclip. Those have rubber around them already. That's why there colored. Worked on my 3rd try and 7 hours of using the wire never worked. xD
