Hey guys so I just got a galaxy s6 sm-g9201 from GCI in Alaska. I rooted it with ping ping root and everything was fine until I tried to flash TWRP.img using the flashify app. It said that it installed it and I rebooted my phone and that's when things went south. My phone is stuck at the Samsung logo and none of the buttons or keys work. I can't power it off or boot into recovery mode as none of the buttons work. Plz help!!!

Did you use Flashify as you typed or Flashfire made by Chainfire? Can you access download mode? If so, use Odin to restore to a rootable software.

For the short term, try long pressing power for as long as needed to turn off the device.

Hey,

So I used an app called flashify from the google play store, I'll post the link at the bottom. I can't get into download mode or recovery mode as my keys don't work at all. My phone stays stuck at the Samsung Galaxy s6 screen and the keys don't work. I've tried letting the phone run out of battery but once I plug it in again it goes back to the same screen and none of the buttons work........I'm stuck

If the external buttons are truly not responding in any way, this is not good at all. I assume you've tried all the typical combinations but almost certainly, you'd have to hold the buttons down (either just power or perhaps power and volume down etc) for up to 30 seconds. But yeah if you've done that, I'm just not sure what else to suggest, short of taking the phone apart and disconnecting the battery lead. Which does not look in the least bit fun with that glass back.

Are you sure your keys don't work? To force a shutdown/reboot you may have to hold the power button down upwards of 30 seconds, which feels like forever when you're doing it. If the buttons really aren't responding, I'd have to think that's a hardware failure and only coincidental to your root attempt.

The keys are totally unresponsive. Power button won't even work. The phone just stays on that Samsung screen and nothing works. I tried letting it die than plugging it back up but it turns itself on with out me pressing the power button and goes right back to the Samsung screen. Gonna see if I can take it apart to disconnect the battery

So do you think I tripped Knox by installing ping pong root. My OS did give me a notice to uninstall it but I declined. How do you know if Knox was tripped so maybe I can send it in for warranty?

If you open it, I think that would void the warranty. Even if you tripped knox, it wouldn't prevent the phone from booting.

A failed root or rom should not prevent the hardware button from at least being able to shut the device off (and just because the screen is off, doesn't mean it's totally without power. Most phone will shut "off" with about 10% power to maintain volatile memory. for the battery to be completely discharged you'd probably have to let it sit for 72 hours AFTER the screen goes black. It still shouldn't prevent a forced shutdown.

I just checked the Samsung website. To force the reboot (battery disconnect) with this phone you have to hold both the volume down key and the power button for 20 seconds. Stupid Sammy.

If that still doesn't work, the i'd call about a warranty repair. Basically, "my phone won't boot, is stuck on the logo screen and buttons are not responding". If they asked if you did anything, then I think you should be up front about it, but if they don't ask, they may just replace it for you.

Ok so I guess the keys aren't TOTALLY unresponsive. If I hold power and volume down then it reboots and stays at the Samsung logo screen. I've held the power button down by itself for 2 min straight with no response. Same when trying to boot it into recovery. It messed up after I tried to flash the twrp.img file so do you think that I just don't have a recovery partition or it's just not working due to a bad flash?

Ok so I tried a different combination of keys. Instead of volume up to go into recovery I held down home key power and v.down and it takes me to a green screen with Odin in red letters at the top left. Will I be able to recover my phone through this option?

I guess it depends on how far the flashing process got. You may have borked your recovery partition at which point you'll have to put it into download mode and reflash the stock firmware. Getting it into download mode might be a bit tricky. To put an S6 into download mode (odin mode) you press the vol. down, power and home all at the same time. Since you are already pressing the vol. down and power button for the simulated battery pull, and it reboots immediately after that you may have only a second or two to press the home key too. It might take a couple of tries and it might be that the instant the screen goes black, you have to release the buttons and re-press all three. (But first, I'd just try keeping vol. down and power pressed and then pressing the home button when the screen goes black.)

If you can get there, then you can flash the factory firmware. You'll of course need to get the right version from sammobile.com and have the right version of odin.

Good, you got there. Yes. Go get your firmware and a copy of odin and it's fairly straightforward from there. I tihnk there are instructions on the sammobile site.

hey guys sorry for the late up-date but im one step closer to my goal but not completely there yet. the stock firmware of my carrier for my phone is not available to the public, but i spoke with a technician for my carrier and he said that tmobile firmware works fine on my phone. i just have to update the apn settings afterwards. im going to try it right now and see how that goeshanks for everything so far guys, ur awesome!

ive tried odin 3.09 and i got stuck at nand write start. so i did a little research and found out the s6 doesnt work with odin versions except 3.10.6 and higher. i downloaded 3.10.7 and it went further than "nand write start" but ended up as operation failed.........fml

So the SM-G920I is the India variant no? How did you get that from a Canada carrier? Are there subvariants of the G920I?

i got it through GCI in alaska and apparently all of their models are the indian international version but they have their own specific firmware for GCI. i got things much farther using odin 3.10.6with tmobile firmware but it pooped out halfway and failed.
