Root Bricked :(

Boost HTC Evo Design

My phone bricked last night for no apparent reason. Only thing I had on it was CWM v5.0.2.8 and Kingdom_xFuZiiOnZz-4.3.2 from 2fast. It was working fine and i got a notice that I had a new update for voicemail and google drive and my bank of america app. Battery had 4% so i plugged it in and let the updates run. Looked at my phone a few mins later and it was stuck on the white HTC screen. It kept rebooting its self. Cant mount or wipe system.
I held vol down + power and this is what it was saying

E: Can't mount/ cache/ recovery/Log
E: Can't Open/ cache/recovery/ log
E: can't mount/ cache/recovery/last_log
E: can't open/cache/ recovery/last_log

I have tried to flash any image I could. Nothing would work, Failed every time. I tried flashing it with the RUU, no luck.
I am just going to buy another phone hopefully very soon. I see 2 options right now. Tamper with the motherboard and try to corrupt the chips that way HTC won't be able to tell that I unlocked it (Electro Static Discharge???), or send it to a guru who is up to the challenge of trying to fix this thing $$.

What you guys think? Anyone up for the challenge? Anyone have a better idea?

Also from what I read, since Sprint won't fix a rooted phone.. I wonder if you could unroot it or convince them to fix it for you anyways, but claim ignorance as far as the root.. Sprint might help you if you play dumb :D Doubt they would charge you anything.

Ohh.. here's something else.. maybe sign up for the insurance and then run over it with your car, then file a claim :D That might not be legal though.

Sooo im assuming your not able to get to fastboot? correct?

I've replaced four designs with sprint. They knew I was rooted and unlocked. this does not void the warranty anymore. And hasn't for awhile. I can't remember what website posted an official sprint rooting policy, but it was posted and I've replaced four phones because of it

WOW good thing I didnt microwave my phone yet. So what is the procedure to get it replaced, can I take a boost to a sprint store? I know they are the same company.

I just told them my issue. Since they couldn't fix it, they had HTC send a refurbished phone. Easy as pie. First time I couldn't connect to PC. Second was overheating. Third was speaker was broken. I'm going back soon cause this phone is starting to lag again really bad. I love this phone, don't get me wrong. But I'm hoping for an early upgrade because of all the issues

OK Called boost, of course they couldnt help me so they told me to contact HTC to have it warrantied. So I am about to ship it to them and was told if they do not do repairs that it could cost me a $40 service fee. I just want to confirm that they will not slap me with that because of the unlocking of the phone and the custom rom that was installed.
Has anyone got a warranty from HTC with their unlocked phones?

I never had warranty service from HTC. But they told me on the phone, the first time, I had issue, that a rooted phone, would void the warranty. Lets hope they don't charge you the fee, + actual cost of the repair. That could wind up costing you more than what you paid for it..

So would rooting be considered unauthorized alterations? Other than that line I can see anything else on the warranty that could void it. Nothing in there about rooting.

Well I can tell you from a recent experience (last month) that Sprint WILL refuse to service your phone If it's rooted. I had a problem where the phone wouldn't factory reset and the Sprint tech guys (a store in Gardena, CA) went into hboot, looked at the "'re-locked security warning" tag and said "it's been previously rooted, we can't touch it". I re-locked my bootloader even before going to the store. So there might be a few Sprint tech guys who are cool with servicing rooted/previously rooted phones, but there are also some that are like the guys I dealt with. Keep this in mind before you attempt going to a store, they may red flag your phone. :(

Just for reference. Just got an email from HTC saying they repaired my phone and its being shipped back to me. And no, I didn't microwave it or anything, Im pretty sure it had a bad eMMC chip. I didn't hear anything from them regarding it being rooted. I will report back once its in my hands.

I had the same issue as you, tried taking it to a local jTag service, they couldn't fix it. I decided to bite the bullet and send it to HTC, they sent back a replacement phone, no questions asked. At this point, I'm trying to decide whether to root the phone anymore, in case it happens again. The only thing I'd want root for is to be able to tether for free, but it might not be worth it to save $10 month (boost) and have a bricked phone that they won't fix for free.
