Root Bricked?

Last night my San Disk 32gb mini card decided to die, taking just about every app with it in an ext2 partition.

So I grabbed the original 8gb that came with the phone, put an older NAND backup on there, and booted into recovery using the adb prompt in a terminal.

Ran the restore, said everything went well, went to boot the system as usual....

Its been hanging on the Now Loading screen for about 10 minutes. Pulled the SD out to see if that'd make a difference but no go.

So do I now have a fancy casio brick?

my best guess is that you modified/replaced/uninstalled/something with the home app, and the system one is not there or not loading. there are two ways to fix this:
Option 1 -
Do a hard key recovery. you can try again or install a ROM from there.
Option 2 -
Plug your phone into your pc and do one of two things:
install the system or custom home app
reboot into recovery
Option 3 -
Go to google play store from your PC and download a home app. It should be sent to your phone.

*I assume that you have all the fail-safes installed and or enabled.
good luck!
