Help Brightness: power saving vs display options?

I'll be reading something and the screen gets bright, then it it goes lower, then bright again. I have it set on automatic brightness but this happens in the same light in just seconds, so not due to changing ambient light, nor to timeout (set at 2 minutes).

Is it due to "power saving mode" Brightness setting? How does that work differently than Display Brightness setting?

I noticed the same thing when I first got the phone so I turned off auto brightness and adjust it when I need to by sliding my finger along the notification bar at the top of the display.

I think that the light sensor is sometimes changing the brightness based on what is being displayed on the screen. A display with a lot of white background might cause the screen to brighten a little and different colors on the screen affect the brightness to different degrees.

The power saving mode should only come into affect when the battery power is below a certain percentage that you can set. I don't use PSM, but if you want it to, the power saving mode can dim your brightness, adjust screen timeout, turn off wi-fi, bluetooth, GPS, sync.

I think you guys are referring to the effects of the "auto adjust screen power" setting. I dislike it and always disable it.

Its probably what NetCat said. It happens to me all the time when i lay down on my bed and use my phone lol.

You can you auto brightness fine but you need to turn off the auto adjust screen power. It should be right under the auto brightness options in the menu. When the option to adjust screen power is on it adjusts the brightness according to the colors on the screen and not the light sensor.
