broken audio jack

My headphones have suddenly lost the ability to plug into the jack socket, as if there is something physically blocking the hole at the bottom, if I plug them in as far a they go, they still stick out 1mm, any ideas....

This happens. Take a toothpick or a paperclip and clean the fluff out. Sometimes you can't see it but it's there.
