broken black screen / no SD card

My friend has Samsung galaxy S2 without SD card. The phone has broken glass and its black however when i connected to PC I was able to see some icons in the lower part of the screen. It
 
If you have the Samsung driver installed SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones and you can't connect to the phone at all, there's nothing to connect to. The glass isn't the only thing broken. Bring it to a Best Buy (if you're in the US) and speak to the Samsung people there.
