Broken power button - need screen lock + keep awake.

So i have a older nexus 1, i am trying to wait out my contract before i get a new phone.

My physical power button broke. So if the screen goes black i have not way of reviving it besides pulling the battery, or plugging it into the wall.

I downloaded a keep awake app, but now when i put the phone in my pocket it hits buttons , makes calls, etc...

Is there a app that will lock the screen while it is awake? And keep it awake?

OOps i meant nexus S , but same thing.. one physical button on the side for power, Physical volume buttons, then 4 soft buttons along bottom of the screen.

Cool. if youre into rooting you can just use one of the other buttons to wake the screen. Simples :beer:
A lot of the custom roms let you use the volume button to wake. Im sure theres root ways to do that without even flashing a rom. Something to look into man. All the nexus have great developer support :thumbup:

Try Gravity Screen. You don't need to be rooted.
You can set it up to wake the phone just by picking it up. You can adjust the sensitivity.
Also, you can set it up to sleep by just putting the phone down or in your pocket.

There are tons more apps that will wake your phone.

I paid a buck for Power On Volume (Button Fix), but since I don’t quite need it yet, I didn’t want it goofing with my memory, typical for all these hardware wakers.

I think there are apps that let you shake to wake, too.

yup, i think theres actually one called Shake To Wake.
All these apps seem to be heavy on battery though

After trying a bunch of free apps, I found a volume / power button fix app that actually works for $1. thanks for all the advice.

I see you found something that works, but for the record Auto Screen On lets you wake the phone with either shaking or the proximity sensor (either one or two taps to wake). I use it and haven't found it to be much of a battery hog.

If you mean Auto Screen On, I tried that and left a comment:

Actually Works, But... I performs just as advertised. But it’s currently using 53% of my battery, way more than display, at 20%. So it might have to take a hike, which is a shame, since it’s the only screen waker that works on my Ascend ll.

But I shall try it again...

Okay, reinstalled it. Applications > Battery Use says:
04% Cell Standby
03% Display
02% Phone Idle
91% Auto Screen On

That sure looks like a problem to me, but actual numbers from SystemPanel say it’s only using about 10M, like most of the other running apps on my droid. So I’ll keep watching.

Meanwhile, the aforementioned Power On Volume does not even show up in the battery use percentages* and reads about 11M in SystemPanel. So I have no idea which is better, but I’m certain which I prefer. Besides, it’s easier to press a volume button than to wave a magic wand.

*It used to show up there, to the point that I discussed it with the dev and ultimately uninstalled it, until this thread rekindled my curiosity.
